Like some others have said - broadly two categories: what I care about and what I don’t. For the latter I would find deals (I still buy old navy for cheap everyday wear sometimes!). For things you care - well that’s why we earned the money, I want to use it and enjoy my life and not die with it!
We both grew up lower middle class and are high earners (SO is a big law senior partner). Like most, we pick and choose. The biggest thing is how we chose where we live; despite high COL and home values, we live in the city. Neither of us liked high property taxes, two cars, cost of commutes yard maintenance etc etc). We have one car that we rarely use, mostly walk/bike/subway everywhere. Takes are a fraction of what a house of similar value would be 20 minutes outside the city. We paid a lot of money for our house, which we love. We enjoy eating out, entertainment, travel, so we spend money there. I eat leftovers, do my own home improvement projects, grocery shop (rather than order delivery), comparison shop any purchases over a couple of hundred bucks.
Understaff projects, make people eat hours, promise charge codes that always seem to be delayed by admin, these are just a few frugal habits of successful partners.

Cynicism isn’t though
I also cut my own hair since the pandemic and will probably continue to do so. I will clip coupons from the Sunday paper. I will check prices on any good over $100 to see if there are cheaper sites to buy from than Amazon. I eat leftovers. I have T-shirts that are older than some of you.
I cut my own hair, ever since university

Back when travel was a thing, I used to take too much advantage of free snacks / food at airport and hotel lounges. Totally irrational since my travel meals are expensed, but something about “free stuff” was still a draw.
I reuse ziploc bags, eat leftovers, have plenty of decades old (but never cheap) clothes, wash my own car, sell used household items for sometimes $5, pack my lunch, take my own coffee to-go! Wastefulness irks me
I reuse ziplocs too! My grandma reused saran wrap. That where I draw the line.
For me it’s more a case of categorization and bucketing across my spend. Things I don’t care about, I am relentlessly cheap about - in my case those include non-work clothing, cars, and certain forms of entertainment (for example, I’d never pay extra to have Hulu without ads.) On the other hand, I refuse to fly in economy class and will spend $100 on a good bottle of wine without even thinking about it.
I agree with the general point although of course with different categories. I’m happy to pay more for a better day-to-day experience (like removing ads in your example although I don’t pay for Hulu) or upgrading the high points of a trip like nicer restaurants or a nicer hotel. But I never really mind going through temporary ordeals or work to get a reward, so I rarely pay to soften those. That affects how I think about flights - flying is always going to be a bit of a pain for me, but it’s worth it for the destination, and I don’t need to blow extra cash on making marginally less annoying. I’d rather spend that money on the other end to make the high points higher.
I only buy used cars. Might be top of the line from 3 years ago, but someone else ate the depreciation.

I hate paying for shipping, so I either wait until free shipping pops up or find items elsewhere or sometimes just forgo them all together.
EY1’s follow up question - people. I worry about people - my kid, my SO, my family, my team, as well as broader challenges we face as a society - human rights, environment, bad politics.
I still worry about money
What about it do you worry? Losing it all?
If I can addd to this, another question: Now that you don’t have to worry about money, what still worry’s you? Your relationships? Your kids safety? What are the parts of your life that money didn’t plz fix?
I always worry about money and act poor in many instances (and in many ways not) as you never want to get too comfortable. Stay hungry. Be smart w your money. It can all be lost quickly if not careful.

Sign up for all the Amex offers, optimize points receptions, try to carry as low a checking balance as possible so HYSA balances are maximized, wait to get free shipping offers from grocery delivery services rather than pay the fee, model out health & benefits selection options

Points redemptions*
I still tend do to a fair bit of comparison shopping on any major or long term purchase, even if i can easily afford it. I just don’t like the idea of overpaying. Sometimes I have to catch myself to avoid spending far more time than it’s worth to save a bit of money.
It’s weird when I think about it . I won’t pay for $5 water bottles at hotels . I still squeeze every last molecule of tooth paste , and try to extend the mach3 blade for one more shave . But I spend on better restaurants , cars and golf courses and stuff .
I am “aggressive” on my tax returns.
I still drive a 2006 Prius 😬
Patterns also have to worry about paying there Audi Emi, rent etc

How much amount a partner has to invest in the firm?
I still enjoy a good deal. I shop grocery specials and clip coupons. I do my own gel nails. I buy luxury cars CPO. I have bought the smallest house is the best neighborhood that needed work (twice) to flip later.
Thank God I left consulting. These kinds to questions are just barf 🤮
