lot of hardos in this thread. from what I've seen at my firm the top performers fend to find better options and the bottom performers get weeded out, with those sticking around to partner being middle of the pack
Sorry to disagree!
A) there are lots of smart people in places that are not PwC
B) Route to partner is not the only path to success
I got one C ever in all my years of school. I got one non-top rating in all my years in consulting. Until I was partner then I was average ;)
Yes, until I was a partner
Pretty much from M onwards in my case. Luck player a major part since I got mentored by very senior partners whose projects I managed .
Yes and no. Always a performer but not always a politicker. Know the difference.
Not when I just started out. When I started managing I started performing really well but was just good not great before that
Yes, for the most part
Agree. For the most part yes
So far to SM I’ve ranked in the top 5% each year since UG.
Where are you getting this Accenture percentile ranking?
Day one. You couldn’t get thru the system otherwise. 14 people started out of mba at my office, 3 remained at 2 years, 1 remained after 3. I have rarely seen turnarounds.
No. I think we don’t give people enough feedback that is direct, specific, and accurate enough for them to actually action it. We come at feedback from such an oblique angle that it’s difficult if not impossible for an individual to know what to change. Now, you can say we do this to protect the victim (even if it’s the perpetrator) but that’s just a cop out. To me, it’s more because we are both afraid of offending someone and afraid that if we actually tell them then someone could come back at us for being too direct or “not collaborative” or “not a team player” regardless of how it’s said.
I think we give them plenty of time to improve and we usually give them a map...we just don’t always show them the starting point accurately! (Couldn’t resist putting that in there for M1)
