Partners, what traits do you seek in a successful first-year Director/Senior Manager?

Honestly, your first year as SM/director, I want you to focus on transitioning to that level effectively and catching up on any gaps you might have.

Too often, people immediately reset their goals to becoming a Partner. I think it is too early and too fast. Learn how to be a good SM first. Get that foundation. Fill in any gaps. Then start building your house.

Congratulations and good luck!

What are the foundational skills of SM?

Director and senior managers are not same , senior managers remains same as what you do as manager. 1st year Director, it more on learning and taking lead on new opportunities.

Thanks, I meant each firm’s equivalent of one title below Partner

As a first year sm, agree with p1. I tried to get excited about what’s next and then quickly found out there are foundational skills I need to spend more time developing. First time in my career where I feel like slowing down adds exponential value.

Hi everyone,

I appeared in L2 round of Capgemini recently.
Just after the intro first question they asked me " Do you have any offer and amount?" This question was asked in technical round.
I'm sure that guy wasn't a Manager.

I don't think he know how to take an interview.

Even after creating 2 asked program and answering 80% of their questions correctly.
Got rejected.
Didn't expect this kind of L2 round from Capgemini.

Those familiar with Amway and Primarica. What is your honest view or opinions on using those as an investment or generating passive income? I personally feel its a bit of a scam. Thoughts?

EY PAS said that they can’t offer more than 115k for senior associate in Chicago. I find that ridiculously low since accenture t&o is offering people 140k to join as a consultant. It is from my understating that ey associate is equal to analyst and sr analyst at Accenture. Then senior associate is equal to consultant/ sr consultant. What am i missing here?

Partners, please looking for some advice. I work for a boutique firm and worked really hard the past year with a lot more responsibilities and an under staffed team (hiring freeze because of covid). My bonus number was good, but not great (I didn’t get my max bonus). The reason from my boss was that while my performance was well recognized, because of covid there was a broad bonus haircut. However, my direct reports did not get any bonus. It has really tainted my view on the firm because...cont.

Is their any company which gives a lot of job security. In the crazy times of this immigration policy? It’s so important to find a safe place. Any input partners ?

For partners at Big4/ ACN/ other T2 firms:
Does your WLB improve after you make partner but stress levels increase since you are responding for revenue and for people. But in terms of delivery it’s the M/SM/D handling the work and the long hours?
Is that an unfair assessment? Is it a false goal to aspire to to become a partner?

What is the partner compensation like at BDO? Base/equity as well as pension. I heard there is 5 years as fixed partner and then 10 as variable partner before you can earn pension. Say you make partner at 40, so can’t earn pension til 55. If you retire at 55 does that mean all you have is whatever you’ve contributed to 401k or otherwise saved? Or is there a lifetime salary if you’ve been partner a certain duration?

Anyone here who started their consulting careers later in life? Always seeing posts about how young people make it to P... wondering about the other stories. I started as a C at 29 (yes, unfortunately, I fall into the bucket of exp hire hired at a lower level...), made M at 33. Doing well but also feeling like I’m already too old to aim to be a P. Hoping for some perspectives.
