Partners: what would you think if a first year associate tells you she is pregnant? And what advise would you give about telling my partners? It was totally unplanned so now I am scared that this may hurt my career and I would be seen as not being committed to the job. This will be my second kid but we had our first while I was in law school. Most of the partners I am working with have at least two kids but also they are men. No female associates with kids in my office.

First, congratulations!! I'm not a partner but my partners were very supportive.

Please don't make important life decisions based on how committed to the job you may appear. Life happens. This is just a job.

It was definitely really nice to have her for support. No one else in my group had kids. I recently lateraled to a new firm and most of the partners have kids. One partner had a kid during her first and third years. One of our juniors had a kid last year and everyone is super supportive.

In all honesty the earlier the less disruptive, and most people have kids. Generally worry not on this.

like

Agreed if the answer is anything other than “congrats” you’re working in the wrong firm.

These are the kind of people I want to work for.

Best time to have kids tbh. I would not worry at all. The earlier the less disruptive it is. Congrats!

Flew for the first time today. Woman next to me took her mask off immediately upon sitting down and starting chatting loudly with her son. I asked her politely if she could keep her mask on and she proceeded to spend the rest of the flight fake sneezing and laughing giving me the side eye to see my reaction. What an inspirational mother.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

As a divorcee with a kid, i find it extremely hard to find friends who can relate, or even making friends as it seems there’s a stigma attached to you because your relationship didn’t work out.

What is the best way to ask clients for relevant email correspondence when credibility is at issue? I feel like most clients have no idea what is “relevant” and often fail to disclose important emails to their lawyers. Are there firms that ask for the email password and have support staff go through all correspondence with a fine tooth comb?

I have a para/assistant teacher that just wants to argue over everything. “You’re the teacher, why do I have to assess the children during break out rooms?” We have 8 kids, and I am only asking her to do 3! The other para is doing 3 and I and doing 2 with IEPs!!! How am I supposed to handle this in a professional manner virtually? Plus she is frustrated b/c o can’t explain everything. I keep telling her it’s all new to me too. Grace is not a word in her vocab. And I am feeling graceless.

I’m an avid painter, sailor, and reader of really bad romcoms (if there’s a related book club), and I’m a very very slow runner (like back of the pack 10-12 min mile, it’s like everyone in Boston is a marathon runner??). Poor time management / ignorance / passive aggression? Feel pity for her! 😡

Anything I can do to save it? Thanks for your help!

Can someone give me insight on completing projects for interviews? I’ve interviewed for a very associate level role that pays ~65k. The interview went well but now they want me to not only do a SWOT analysis on the company as well as present for 45 minutes on a 4 person panel. I’ve done assessments before for interviews but this seems a little excessive based on the role (eCommerce specialist) and pay range. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

So for those thinking of doing CFA, big tip. Start trying to get into your desired role after you pass level 1 and 2. Don’t wait to be a full charter to pivot. Level 1 and 2 are like recruiting cycles

We are wrapping up a deal and the parties basically want to do the deal ten more times, but in different flavors and for different items. While I would stick it out through closing of this first deal, is there a graceful way of getting out of doing the rest of the series? Not the biggest fan of my deal team; deal doesn’t contribute to development; it is a massive time suck that hurts my performance on other deals; and I have plenty of other fish to fry.

It makes me feel like I’m not on the team & am just a worker bee drone & I am way less motivated to do my best work.
