People have been asking me for referrals post COVID and I want to help everyone but I also know that some people won’t be a great fit. Is anyone else facing this? Does it hurt to refer not as strong candidates? I am assuming they will just get rejected?

Agreed with the above. If I have time, I’ll speak with them to learn about their background, and then determine if there’s a fit. Yes it takes a lot of time but I can’t blindly turn down an ask for help. For students, I’ll take the call 100% of the time.

For people I know very well, I'm generally referring. For the extended network, I'm really not engaging at time, especially with the hiring slowdown. Seeing the hiring slowdown in my PA, not sure if any group is aggressively hiring.

Which PA are you in D2?

Yes. Same situation for me as well!

If you feel strongly that the candidate doesn’t meet 80% of the job reqs and is really not a fit, don’t refer them. Also, Keep in mind, sometimes hiring managers are flexible or they change the priority of the required qualifications and may hire someone that may have something else to offer, though I don’t think this is the norm. I got contacted by Google for a very technical role even though my resume (in their system) clearly didn’t have the skills they required (I wasn’t a fit but they still reached out).

Yes same boat. If I know them and can personally attest to their work, I’ll refer for sure. If I can’t personally vouch, I try and defer saying they’re only hiring extremely specific roles right now since we’re in such a slowdown. If they insist I ask them to send me the job posting/description when they find it. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet 🤷🏻‍♀️ Feel like people want a blanket referral which I understand.

I really do not understand my company's attendance policy. No sick or personal time and each time you have unscheduled PTO it's considered an occurence. Its super restrictive and during a pandemic you risk people coming to work sick spreading what could potentially be Covid. I just don't get it. I understand they are running a business but it just shows you really don't care about your employees at all but yet you want them to care about this company and the work being done here.

What type of self help strategies do individuals actually find helpful when you feel burn out or stuck in a rut? Any books, apps, meditation, podcasts, etc, others find helpful? I've done therapy and it has definitely helped this past year with covid and a marriage separation, starting to feel like I'm making progress and want to keep up the momentum. Looking to see what type of self help others find actually beneficial and would love to use that to help others stuck in burn out too

I have bad Sunday blues. I feel like I should just take xanax and go to bed. I am in a bad covid cycle of binge eating, starving, drinking too much, then being rigidly “good” for a few days then spiraling into the cycle again. I feel doom and can’t get off my couch. I went on vacation w family and had a good time last week. Back home alone I feel in a funk again. Funkier than Cold Medina. Just wanted to share with someone.

Thinking about getting into valuations. Anyone have any insights about this path in Big4 and in industry? Specifically I’m wondering: 1) what’s the scope of work like at Big 4? Working 9am - 3am consistently? 3) what exit opportunities exit after the Big 4 experience? 4) how does Compensationfor HCOL seniors/ manager look this year?
