Hello Everyone! Does anyone have a connection at Netflix ! I am an author/marketing associate and truly my dream job is to work on the team that creates/produces Drive to Survive. I am a huge F1 fan! However, I am willing to start where I can and work my way there! I was laid off due to Covid and just trying to get back into the field and industry I love.
It's always been a dream of mine to work at Google, specifically as a UX designer (currently transitioning into UX from visual design). I've been so afraid to apply to any jobs with UX title, Google or not, because I'm always doubting myself and telling myself I'm still under-qualified.
UX designers & hiring managers, what are the skills a designer must have to be "qualified" for a UX position? Keywords on resume? Certifications? Thank you all in advance!

Oh no, B tier?
I'd hold out for wherever they're winning awards. Anything else just won't do.
Why not take your top tier talent and try to improve the work of the new place?
@ACD, I wasn't going for the burn. Though I can see it now. I, too, have been that person. And it is a challenge. You're not going to win everyone over, but it's likely that you'll find a few others who are willing to go on that journey with you. I don't think anyone, even a CCO, can entirely change an agency's trajectory. But you might be able to find a client or two that digs the work you're doing. Build some trust. Do some good work on a challenging project. It really just takes one. Win some metal on that, and it speaks volumes more than a BK stunt.
Take anything you can get immediately and keep looking for a better job. The economy is going to get worse.
Ok, Paul Krugman.
Hard to say without knowing the situation/agency. But it would be wise to take cover for the next 18 months. You can always leave. And who knows, you may like the “B” shop.
Mediocre agencies sometimes do good work, just like good agencies often do mediocre work (they just leave it off their “agency of the year” sizzle vids).
Oh settle down. You work in advertising. People literally pay extra to avoid what you make for a living.
Don't listen to him OP, it's not true!!

I am in a similar boat. I don’t think it’s just your finances that you need to consider, it’s also your confidence and general mental state. Not working for an extended period is tough for so many reasons I’m discovering.
So I’m considering lots of different scenarios. If I go to a B agency it will have to be for a good account or I’d consider a good place for a less sexy piece of business. But I’m mindful of having something there to put a positive spin on.
I have not considered completely giving up entirely on myself and taking a shitty job in a bad place. As that could have a worse a long term effect on my career as having no job in this time.
Did you look at the one shows top 10 agencies of the year? Like 8 of them are places we all called “B” tier last year.
How are your finances?
Do what’s right for you. I’m not sure your definition of B tier, but if you won’t be happy there, don’t go. If you can see the opportunity at an agency, no matter what tier it is, and you think you can make good work there, then go there and make the most of it.
I have a condo that I rent out. When my tenants can’t pay the rent, I tell them that the only important thing is that they’re at a cool
agency, and then I fold my hands in my lap, stare at the wall and wait patiently for my money.

If they're working at an agency, how come they can't afford the rent?
I was lucky to get a pretty hefty severance when I was laid off, so not financially struggling (yet at least). But I am starting a new gig on Monday at an early stage startup that is far from cool as of now, but I figured it’s a good time to take a risk. Everyone is in survival mode. Use the opportunity to try something you normally wouldn’t do if it comes along. ✌️
Take whatever you can. This could get far worse, and last for several years.
You might also get PTSD if you haven't worked in a year or longer as well. It can stay with. You need to keep yourself busy. People will forgive that point where you aren't at the best agency for blip.
