People like these boil my blood. Justifying layoffs is never acceptable! Why can’t C-suite or executive reduce their TC and bear the burden? FFS.

I mean, there's a smidgen of truth in that sometimes layoffs are a net good (some jobs are better than no jobs). But they doesn't mean other options shouldn't be considered first or that we should EVER BE HAPPY TO BE LAYED OFF

OR TO FEEL BLESSED THAT SOMEBODY ELSE PROFITS FROM OUR LABOR

likefunny

Because workers are expendable, and C-suite got the power, duh

A purely capitalistic view yet it sounds like it was written by a communist

Consultants are not really ones to talk about layoffs…

As someone who professionally reduces headcount.. it’s a necessary evil. Organizations hire too fast or don’t grow to expectations and need to lean out. No different than eating too much around the holidays and then cleaning up in January.

Senior Director seems like an experienced leader OP, you should listen to them

So at Meta ONE person had a stupid billion-dollar idea, 11k laid off and we should be ok with that. Alrighty then

That’s what. It was his idea and he’s an executive. He could have taken a $5bn max hit in his net worrh and those employees need not be fired!

Layoffs are the company last resource to survive, it should be rather up to the business and ultimate consumer to make the decision on keeping business or buying from a company that is affecting families, in Europe we are more conscious about that in other countries.

People really overestimate how much executives make & underestimate the value they bring. If you cut every partners salary in half at the B4, employees would get maybe 30k more per year and some partners would be making less than directors.

C suite comp is mostly equity and tied to performance of the business…

Yeah, had the same reaction to this post. Sure, the part about being thankful is absolutely stupid. But OPs opinion that layoffs are never justified and that c-suite should just take the hit is equally naive.

like

As someone who was laid off in secret during the pandemic…fuck this person.
When other employees found out about the secret layoffs, they literally said “we would have taken pay cuts to keep our teammates” many of them were leads or managers.

The CEO would not even engage that conversation.

If you’re in a position of some power and do not have any empathy for others, you are doing a disservice to all who work with you and report to you.

Lmao I would rather we cut our workforce by 20% than take a pay cut. If the partners want to take the hit, they can be my guest. They would be the only ones to benefit from keeping people around.

Currently working on a three person team in a larger GC group. I lateraled from a different group that did not pay attorneys on an attorney scale. I’m stuck in my old pay scale but have gotten promotions and raises quickly with more on the horizon. A recruiter reached out with a new role for 2-2.5x more than I currently make doing something similar. I love my company and the people I work with but the money isn’t there. How does contract to hire work? If I’m offered $37/hr on w2 for 3 months and then possibly a permanent position, how much can I expect to get annually as a full time company employee as a BI data analyst II? I have a M.S. and certificates in DA but this will be my first job as DA.
I prefer working for what is offered on contract without negotiating, and then negotiate when I transition into the company itself so I have a better chance of getting the contract position and show my skills.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?
