People often get promoted and hired because people like them not necessarily because they have the skills. True or false?

True. I can always send people to training or classes to gain skills but you can’t really do anything about someone’s personality and likability.

You can do more with one person that is kind, hardworking and has integrity than ten skilled people who’re untrustworthy and difficult to work with.

True-ish. I didnt know the first thing about excel before consulting so bombed the case study. Made the interviewer laugh a lot though and got the job.

Got my first promo from hard work and having to prove myself. People also think I'm "nice"... have heard it from multiple coworkers. I just have a lot of patience.

True.
For most jobs- you don’t operate in a silo. I’d just change ‘like you’ to ‘like working with you’ in your sentence.
It’s easier to work with people who are approachable, collaborative, and easy to get along with.

Being likable and easy to work with is a big part of most jobs. And more so as you move up

True and reverse is true: first round on layoff list is people not generally liked relative to the others.

I always tell people I coach: “companies are made of people, your interviewer is a person, and people have biases. Get your interviewer to personally like you and you are a lot more likely to get an offer”

like

Who would hire someone that was capable but not likable? That is a recipe for disaster.

Be good at your job, be on time, and be easy to work with.

Pick 2 out of 3 to keep your job. Pick all 3 to get steady promotions, raises, bonuses, etc.

like

Well if you are not good at job not sure how will you survive by just being likeable and punctual. I think being skilful in your domain is quite important and true knowledge brings wisdom and kindness.
I have seen people who don’t know anything, faff around and crack jokes, I will not like them just because they portray an image of being likeable.

The government should have never gotten involved in student loans. Because these loans are government backed and you can’t even get out of them by declaring bankruptcy, colleges can now charge whatever they want without consequence and people will have to pay it.
