I just accepted an offer today and am planning on resigning next Monday. I will not consider my counter offer even if they come back with one (fairly confident they will given I am a top performer). I am going to try to shut a counter offer down so it's not a waste of everyone's time. I am going to be very short, sweet and direct when I hand them my resignation letter. I'm just going to tell them that a friend told me about this new opportunity and I am really excited to start it. I appreciate all of the guidance they have given me as I matured as an accountant. My last day will be 8/31 and I will work as hard as I can to transition my work and meet as many of my 9/15 deadlines as I can prior to my departure.
Reasons why I am leaving:
-25k below market
-tax manager for 4 years but handling multiple major client groups on my own with no assistance and despite doing what is required of a senior manager was not promoted until I mentioned comp (fantastic rating though)
-when I discussed my comp with the partner and talked about my current duties he agreed I was underpaid. A week later he comes back and tells me I got promoted and he would get back to me on comp. Almost 2 weeks later no comp discussion yet.
-completely understaffed/not the right staff on engagements despite me vocalizing my concerns. They tell me to reach out to the scheduler who gives me interns for a job that I asked for a senior or staff 2 (due to complexity). I was assured things would change, gave the benefit of the doubt but 10 months later nothing has changed.
-no mentoring anymore to continue advancing my career
-the stress is affecting my health as my blood pressure was 160s/high 90s this past week and I am getting frequent migraines.
It's just not worth it anymore.
Makes perfect sense! Good luck with your new role!
Following. Signed offer recently, am probably going to have tough conversations since I'm very well liked/will most likely receive counter offer and let me transfer to a different group. Hoping I am making the right decision. I figure I could always boomerang back and collect 2x signing bonuses/pay premiums
OP, I agree with D1.
Tried to leave at M1 - firm countered and been here for 22 more years. Never regretted it for a day.
Yes - been partner for 17 years!!
I feel like this comes down to why your are considering leaving in the first place. If for money, then you probably would do well staying with the counter offer. If for any other reason, you’ll likely be looking again before long.
Yeah the counter is aligned with the external one
Pro
Sort of - I switched to FDD as a senior. Had offers from all the firms to leave, EY eventually countered and beat the others on comp. decided to stay because of the people on my local team, 8 years later I’m glad I’m still with the firm
I did this about 5 years ago and am relatively happy.
Yup! I was looking to leave at Senior 2 for a smaller firm but same job. EY did not match title/raise but did allow me to relocate with relocation expenses included
Very happy. I stayed another 20 years so far.
No.
Same shiz, different big 4 lol
20k raise and off a bad project. Don’t regret
