People who use different virtual backgrounds for the zoom camera , what’s the trick. Every time I try that, there’s too much blur and it’s distracting. I get a halo too.

Clean background ideally a green screen. If not then a white wall

What D1 said plus a good camera really makes a difference. If you’re using your laptop’s built in camera it may not be doing a great job with backgrounds. Get an external camera optimised to work with collab software and virtual backgrounds

Teams is much better, crisp & clean backgrounds to choose from.

I make sure I'm sitting in front of a window with the sun behind me so no one can see anything at all just a dark blob with blinding light. 😶‍🌫️

I am trying to write a stock letter to send to parents everyday that their child does not come to virtual learning sessions. I have been told by administration that even though I have spoken to parents and know why students are not coming to zoom classes, that we still need to contact them everytime they dont come. For some of my students this is everyday due to parent work schedules and disability issues.
Is anyone else having this trouble? What are you saying to parents to cover yourself?

I switched my company 3 months ago for a kind of similar role thinking I will have more exposure to technologies but as it is a product based company, I am supporting their own product only.

I am feeling directionless these days. Please guide me.

A friend of mine from a top tier consulting firm was counseled out. Do you consider it ethical that his career counselor is intentially spreading the information to his colleagues and to other consultants from other companies in the project? What can he do about it? Specially that he considers the potential layoff is purely based on the current situation (chargeability was low) and not on his performance (they said that his contribution to BD during his bench time was low)?

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!
