I’m in healthcare and have close friends who work in the ED in another state. The surge is real but from what my ER friends tell me- they are by large treating patients that aren’t vaccinated. One of my friends who is an ER doc told me this afternoon that no one wants to work their shifts- they are so burned out and they are offering $1000 to each other if someone would pick up their shift. My healthcare system is starting to staff for Covid and bring up the units again. We too are seeing an uprising in the unvaccinated population.

Echoing SC1. Best friend works in the ICU. Major uptick, but all her patients are unvaccinated. I know of a few people fully vaxxed who have gotten COVID, but none ended up in the hospital so at least there’s that incentive to get the jab.

If you can't trust the news, you're watching / reading the wrong news. Try NPR, BBC, and Reuters. Consistently shown to be the most centrist.

Why would you tryst a frontline doc but not an epidemiologist or public health doctor? This makes no sense, @OP. Get vaxxed, keep wearing a mask, avoid big crowds with lots of unmasked or unvaxxed people. The science has changed because delta behaves differently.

I’m vaxxed and masked, that wasn’t the advice I requested but thanks. But to answer your question, I want the perspective of front line doctors because they aren’t in the public eye and curating their messaging for the media. I understand why they say what they say, but sometimes I want to be the recipient of raw information rather than a message directed to the public with a specific outcome envisioned. The reason I posted this was to understand the severity of the Delta surge in their eyes, and the trends they’re seeing in vaccine efficacy.

Sorry you are the victim of so much disinformation. One of my best friends is a public health official, without doxxing him, he works for the federal government in a public health and crisis response capacity (at a mid-level, not fauci over here lol). Basically, I listen and trust him. He says get vaccinated, of course, and has been ahead of the CDC in saying that you should still wear a mask because of transmission. He thinks maybe the great unmasking that occurred in June/July was premature and likely an attempt to encourage people to get vaccinated who were on the fence. Paraphrased he has said, "the pandemic is over when people stop caring about people dying".

like

OP, to answer your question, we made great vaccines - impeccable ones, for the virus we first came across a little over a year ago that is. What's not being said is that we're in uncharted territory. Never before have we experienced a pandemic on this scale with a virus that's this transmissible with such a global transit network on our hands. This allows mixing and mutating galore, and it's near impossible to guess what'll happen next - will it become more transmissible, more deadly, become more evasive of testing, we don't know. Vaccines ARE in fact a robust way of putting any pandemic in check, but if you're not able to quash the disease in the population quickly you may run into a superbug situation, not unlike antibiotic resistant bacteria, where our current vaccines are no longer as effective. Here, the key is to vaccinate THE WHOLE POPULATION QUICKLY AND EFFECTIVELY in order to eradicate the disease. Even with that being said, all's not lost. The key advantage to the mRNA platform is that it's highly adaptable and can be pivoted to address a COVID strain on a dime (pending regulatory approval of course)

Agree with the responses on here and they make me so happy! I find the number of people that are misinformed or refuse to get vaccinated depressing…

A couple of my close friends work in healthcare, and my dad has been in the hospital (unrelated to COVID) so I’ve been spending some time there recently and chatting with nurses. It’s unvaccinated people who are getting really sick- vaccinated people are testing positive without symptoms. The ER waiting room was packed with COVID patients when my dad went, but the hospitals are also super busy right now because of people who put off healthcare during COVID and are now really sick. There’s been a surge of patients coming in with chronic illnesses that went untreated during COIVD lockdowns.

I am fully vaxxed but happened to get a cold last week. After seeing all the news stories about delta, I went for a Covid test at a clinic affiliated with a large teaching hospital (one of the top in the country). My provider said they are seeing very little breakthrough as a % of the vaccinated, and the risk is very low. Even though the news stories show large #s of breakthroughs, considering the # vaccinated the percentage is crazy small. That made me feel better. (I tested negative and was relieved it was just a cold!)

like

Same! Still lingering but hey, not Covid.

Have heard they’re pretty full, but they’re seeing lots of new symptoms of variants (may not even be COVID19, but something funky is going around rn).

After many months unemployed, I got an offer in another city at a pharma agency, HCP work. My last position was as a brand strategist at a well-known NYC agency. With the surge in job postings, should I hold out for a position that I'd actually be excited about? Or is the job market still super terrible? I wouldn't even mind DTC healthcare, but HCP is just not for me.
