People with a Tesla, how much do you make? I have been wanting a Model 3 but it's hard to pull the trigger since I know putting that money into investing or a down payment is much more practical in the long run.

If you’re asking probably best to invest your money in an appreciating asset rather than a pricey car.

like

A car used for commute/getting around is never an investment; it’s guaranteed to depreciate. Buy the car if you would otherwise need a car anyways. You’ll be paying a premium for an electric car, but it might make sense if you factor in savings from not paying for gas, local/state based incentives, savings from significantly lower maintenance costs, and whatever driving a more environmentally friendly car is worth to you.

It’s a 60k commuter car. It’s awesome, but depreciates (albeit not terrible relative to comparable gas vehicle). Invest in long term assets. Your future self will thank you.

Yea I did a little more digging and found the $35k price tag is very misleading. I do want one eventually, so just want to get folks perspective on when they feel comfortable spending that amount of money in a Tesla (after what point in salary/portfolio).

We don’t think our situation is complicated- neither of us own a home/cars, but have some investments, both expect some inheritance eventually, and both get a chunk of equity from work that we’d like to call out. We’ve already discussed in depth how we want to split things.

Hey friends. My wife and I are looking to start investing in the market outside of our 401ks, hsa etc. We opened a Charles Schwab brokerage account and planning to transfer 2-3k/mo. We’re in our late 20s/early 30 and likely won’t need to touch the money for 10+ years. What should be our investment strategy? How should we allocate to what funds? Thinking of splitting evenly across large, mid, small caps, and growth, value funds using DCA.

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.
