Good on you for taking them at face value when they say unlimited!
The call had to be awkward because the logic is there’s no limit and you approved every day. If there is a limit then let me accrue to that limit if there’s no limit why are we having this call.
I feel like the Americans are judging me. I’m from Spain originally before I moved to the US. In Spain, we don’t live to work. It’s normal to vacation. Not sure why Americans love to work so much.
We’re backwards whack jobs! 😂
Wait what did they say - the unlimited pto is really limited? 😅
Why stop at 9. Why not 15?
Pro
Why not 52? 😂
I plan on averaging 6 weeks/yr... If the Europeans can do it why not US
Pro
I’m usually taking my 6 weeks.
And as a European in the US: just take your pretend work weeks as PTO… nothing gets done in the following weeks:
- Memorial Day week
- 4th of July week
- Labor Day week
- Thanksgiving week
- “between thanksgiving and the holidays”
- Christmas / “holidays”

9 weeks in 5 months? Lol
Unlimited PTO is a scam

Which company gives 30 days in us? :O
Maybe with public holidays but can assure no company gives pure annual holidays plus public holidays.
Pro
What company?
I think it’s EY
We want the juicy bits from the call. What did they have in mind lol?
That is awesome, i admire you. Im on unlimited pto for the first time and they have me feeling guilty about taking 5
Here thing tho. I guess it may be an issue for long term projects. I only do 3-4 week diligences, theoretically, I could book time off between every project without disturbing work flow. Maybe that is my firm will never have unlimited PTO haha
While I agree with the sentiment here, I disagree with the commenters calling out the company for “lying” considering that HR was not actively monitoring this. My firm has unlimited PTO but does track utilization, which is an often communicated expectation. That could be the real issue here, or it could be negatively impacting the team’s ability to meet client expectations if time off is not communicated and/or planned with your teammates (not calling out OP, just speaking from experience)

So curious on who this was. Good job OP
Why did this manager complain to HR instead of talking to you?
