Perks of GT over a big 4?

GT can be demanding , I worked there, all depends on the office and engagement , just like anywhere else

As PWC 2 said - very dependent on engagement. As for new vacation policy, I was not a fan originally as I felt it was to get employees to take less, I've tested the limits and taken a lot of vacation (while unassigned mind you) and nobody has said a thing. Since the middle of May I've worked maybe 3-4 full five day weeks.

like

I take at least 6 weeks ever year at PwC

like

I take 3 weeks right after busy season, then a 2 weeks in the fall and 1 week for Christmas , actually sometimes more bc I take at least 1 week during the summer

like

Unlimited vacation

Your exit opportunities to industry will be slightly less if you leave the big 4; there are companies that hire strictly from the big 4. Work life balance will be better at GT depending on engagement. Pay might be slightly higher than what you are getting now but that would be the same if you left for another big 4 firm too.

like

Unlimited vacation just equals no pay out when you quit due to no accrued benefit...

like

Is that a perk? I'd be curious to know the average vacation taken per year under the new policy. GT is hedging their bets with that policy, and also won't have to pay it out when you leave. Overachievers will also hold it over you that they haven't taken any vacation, blah blah blah

30 days? How

How about experience and pay ?

Pwc2-- you buy extras?

I go in the negative but no one cares about it

EY2 thanks! I'm looking for something less stressful and not such demanding hours

With GT: Flexibility , unlimited vacation, less hours but EY2 is right, your exit opportunity to industry will be slightly less, depends on market tho.

GT manager here in major market. Benefits include flexibility and upward mobility. We are less structured than big 4, which allows for more meaningful experience earlier in career. Trade offs include client workload. Our market is smaller size clients, so you will work on more clients, and they tend to need technical resources. Flexible time off is a huge plus.

I've never been able to use all 25 PTO days so I can't imagine the benefit of unlimited PTO

Anyone here who made the exit from Big 4/MBB consulting to a VC? If so, I’d love to hear about how the experience is so far. (Not to mention the WLB and comp!) I’m considering a career change but have no one in my network I can go to for insights. Thx! 🙏🏾

Ex-Consulant here that now works for a big name Real Estate Investment Trust. Saw on LinkedIn that EY has an America’s REIT Leader. Didn’t know that much attention was paid to the REIT space. Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?
