Personal tax question - if my wife is a W-2 full time employee who works 100% from home and we have a dedicated office set up for her in our rental apartment, can we take any deductions for this?

No, after tax reform, it's been repealed. It used to be a deduction in Sch. A.

Oh man! Thanks for the quick response!

Nothing

Ya you can only take it now if you shoulda the business as a schedule C

And if so, what’s eligible? We recently moved and she just started working remotely in 2019. We basically bought all of the furniture for the office and everything like that in 2019. It’s a dedicated separate room with measurable square footage. Only other thing I can think of is whether electricity could be factored in?

If you are 1099 I think you ca.

If you itemize you’re deductions, you can claim deductions for unreimbursed business expenses.

So if you file as married I don’t think itemizing for office space will be more than your standard deduction. Maybe if you owned you home and were deducting interest and property tax as well.

Hi everyone, got an offer with EY’s Business Consulting group earlier this week. Was wondering what the typically salary ban was for a Staff 2 in a major city? They offered $90K but was curious if this was on the lower or higher end? Going to see if I can get more but would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?
