I wasn't happy with the level I was brought in after my PhD. It was disappointing being in the same place as people much younger and feeling like the experiences I had, which actually did teach me relevant skills, weren't valued. I left a couple of jobs fairly quickly for more money and responsibilities before I didn't feel behind anymore, and now I'm actually on the young side for the specific position in my organization. What helped was aggressively job searching and networking until I found people who got who I was and what I could do, as opposed to seeing me as an older version of a widget who hadn't gone to graduate school.

No it won’t but that’s okay- PhD had other benefits. Exception is if you are working in a field directly related to your PhD and you become a specialist

I was on shift in the control room when we first took data, with collisions at higher energies than any humans had ever observed. I got to build equipment that solved problems no one had even imagined would be problems until we tried to do what we did, and wrote software to run that equipment. I also got to be a professor for a while (glad I did it, and glad I don’t do it anymore) and met my wife in grad school. I would have made a lot more money if I had gone directly into consulting from undergrad, but money isn’t everything and I’m glad I spent those years the way I spent them.

I just put an offer on a place and it was accepted. I’m also switching jobs before closing. Should I give everyone a head’s up since they may need to redo the numbers. Same salary, so no problem with DTI.

Any advice on how to get into the sales side of Investment Banking? I have above average experience, have a finance background degree but keep failing the initial application stages (before the interview stages) and then watch people on LinkedIn with less experience get roles with top banks. I understand that I need to figure out how to get past the application tracking systems but it can be really frustrating at times and advice online is often very generic (I.e. tell them about yourself).
