I'm with you on scheduling time. If someone really needs your full attention they can't expect to get it by randomly calling, IMO. Don't answer and then book time to catch up based on the message I'd guess she leaves?

Idk if someone wants something from me that makes more sense to explain on the phone, I’d much rather just have a convenient call. I’m also pretty used to my bosses randomly calling me since I’ve been remote the whole time I’ve worked. A courtesy ping I feel like is a good middle ground to confirm they’re around imo.

That’s what I do P1

Millennial here and I preferred to message early in my career and now that I manage people I constantly find myself saying “want to just call me?” It’s so much more efficient and a LOT gets lost through words on a screen.

I don’t really care how someone gets in touch as long as it isn’t a surprise video call.

Hahaha yeah that’s evil

Very rarely do I appreciate an impromptu phone call. I’d rather email/text, but I have no problem with scheduling a phone call in advance. I also hate getting held hostage on the phone, so when I do talk on the phone I won’t engage the other person in generic pleasantries because I’m busy af.

like

I get straight to the point. I’ll engage in small talk if the call was scheduled in advance, but I honestly do not care to talk about the weather mid-MSJ. Example: “wow, it is very cold today.” Id respond “yep, I’ve got my favorite sweater on. So, what can I do for ya?”

I’m 28 and I sometimes feel like everyone else just wants to text/ping and that’s fine when we can occasionally see each other, but now I really want to have calls to discuss things, potentially with video, vs texting. Feels more efficient, plus getting to actually see people is nice. Unfortunately I’m the only one on my team like this.

like

Fortunately I’ve never had the issue of someone just calling without warning first. If I did, quite frankly I’d like let it go to voice mail. IM me first and ask if I have time. That way I can be prepared to actually discuss a particular topic.

smart

I definitely prefer to book in time. Some of my more senior team members will just IM me a Zoom link without saying a word and expect me to join it immediately. On video. It’s like their version of an impromptu phone call.

Nope that’s not ok.

Hi ladies, I need some advice on how to navigate/build a relationship with my fiance's family. Some of his siblings and family members are very standoffish and distant. For background, we are same race different culture. I'm very open and I've learned a lot from my fiance over the years. However, I believe his family still sees me as an outsider and they don't invite me to certain things. At times, it feels isolating and it makes me feel unwelcomed. They're also supposed to be in my wedding.

Hello. I’m working on H1B and recently got a promotion. My company is amending my H1B and told me that since my new job is remote I can only work at my apartment (since it’s my legal location). Is there any chance they can figure out I’m working remotely from somewhere else? Also, I’m also in the process of applying for green card (thru employment). Does anyone know the timeline for this given my H1B is getting amended ? (My country has no waiting time).
