Plan on leaving the firm shortly, what sort of housekeeping things should I do before then? I.e. 401K, personal computer files, etc. I've thought of most things, but curious what the crowd says.

Say goodbye to folks. In person and by email. Express thanks for the time working with them, provide your personal email and phone number, connect on LinkedIn, wish them the best. That may sound obvious but not everyone seems to do this. Your network is your co-workers, not so much your managers, and you all will benefit by staying in touch. Plant those seeds and keep them watered.

I'd try and get copies of some manuals (like ARM, Financial Reporting Guide, bus comb guide, etc). Those come in handy if you're going into accounting, IA, or FR. don't forget to switch your phone over to a personal plan. Wipe your google drive if you don't want anyone to have the files because the drive goes to someone on your team

Contact pwc help to transfer out your phone line and liability to you, there will be contact with your provider as well

I'm doing the same right now. I'm wondering what happens to all our old emails? Does the firm delete them or will somebody have access to them?

Transfer your phone out and save your contacts. Get the contact info of anyone you want to stay in touch with. Check Iris to see if PwC is doing anything with your new company. Be careful on what firm documents you do or do not bring, big brother is supposedly paying attention.

Been looking into purchasing tBills on treasury direct. Near as I can tell they would currently pay ~3% for a 52 week term which is roughly .5 to 1 % more than a cd for equivalent term. So…why isn’t everyone buying these instead or CDs or Hysa? What am I missing?

Note: these don’t appear to have a purchase limit like Ibonds.

Tax question: Say I am due to owe $50k in capital gains in 2021. What’s to stop me from going out and buying a Tesla and renting it out on Turo for $1,500 per month. I then use bonus depreciation to write off the full expense of the car in year 1, negating the $50k in capital gains owed.

I’ve always avoided annuities but think this one from NY Life is interesting. It’s called a Variable Investment Fund and you can add an Investment Preservation Rider for a fee. The IPR guarantees your investment return will at least be the cash you put in.

Typical portfolio returns about 7.5% after all fees. The commission fee is 2%.

So you are attenuating some upside and paying a pretty hefty fee, but you are insuring agains the downside.

I recently realized that I no longer want to work with a partner ( Partner A). Partner A became a partner 2 years ago but still works like a senior manager and tries to micromanage everything. Partner A is also very slow in reviewing the work which results in delays in deliverables. I always had a great relationship with my clients but this is causing issues. The problem is 3 of my biggest 5 clients are Partner A's clients and I like my clients and the work. What do I do?

Dilemma: I’m in Big4. The hours have been nothing but amazing! I currently work at most 20-25 hours MAX and we get emails saying “You guys really put in the extra time to see this through.” The catch is I am in an industry I genuinely despise. I currently have an offer to go do something I would enjoy to another Big4.

So the question is leave here where I’m smooth sailing for more work and slightly more pay? Or keep cruising until I ultimately leave Big4?
