I highly recommend Philip P. Masad movers. They’re hq’d in metro west Boston but if you’re doing a multi state move I’m not sure it matters. I’ve used them three times including moving my mom from NY to Massachusetts. Great quality for reasonable prices.

Also a friend of mine owns College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving in Norwood, MA. He’s a Naval Academy grad and veteran (bomb unit) so you’d be supporting a hard working guy and veteran-owned business. I hadn’t used him for my moves because he started his franchise after they were done.

If you are targeting a 9/1 move, I’d try and book now. That weekend is when the majority of rentals turn over in Boston - TBD how much availability there will be since whether colleges are having classes in person will likely dictate the demand.

I’d add that scams around moving companies are common - I had a friend who ended up paying a company to move his stuff, and on moving day nobody showed up. Someone had impersonated a legitimate moving company and taken a deposit with no intention of actually moving them. This is to say that you should just do a quick double check to make sure that the company is real and you’re calling them - they’re not calling you on a spoofed number.

In the past, I would have said that it depends on the date - if 8/31 or 9/1 then a couple months since majority of rentals turn those days and the city is bananas. Other days could be a couple weeks in advance to secure parking signs/permits. My experience is primarily intracity moves tho so take this with a grain of salt

Don’t know how many people are moving this year though...

For August you can probably wait. 9/1 is just a very busy time because of the leases that turn over on that specific weekend.

Obviously things will be different due to COVID.

like

Agree with this - you can wait for August for a bit, especially since rentals for 8/1 aren’t out yet. Covid has pushed the timeline back a bit (normally they’d be out by now) . But I’d recommend starting to look for apartments over the next few weeks. If you need broker recs, lmk! I have an email written up 😊

I'm moving from Chicago to Boston around same time, I'm considering driving there myself not sure if it's the best idea

like

I drove, it was really beautiful, particularly in mid September. But if you drive and are planning to keep your car, triple check parking options wherever you choose to move. Parking within the city is rather limited.

Also, all the roundabouts were a little weird the first time I used them here.

like

Boston is a literal nightmare around 9/1 since the colleges dictate most of the rentals. Might be different because of COVID but I’d do anything you can to not move 9/1. Boston is a beautiful city!

Thanks! I’m actually planning for early August...sounds like I pretty much need to book immediately? Problem is I don’t have a place or specific date solidified yet, so was hoping to wait til I have more details

Trying to figure out how to rewrite my resume to get into an entry level PR position after 7 years as a Paralegal/Legal Secretary. I'm also taking some Coursera classes relating to PR/Social Media marketing to refresh my memory from college.

Does this place exist?? Appreciate any insight. Thank you!
