This is what I sent my friend who has never been/has limited time:
To see:
- Big Ben
- Westminster Abby
- Buckingham Palace - it’s a nice walk
- Take the double decker bus and sit on the second floor/front seat it’s really fun and my fav thing to do tbh.
- You have to go to Borough Market
- British Museum
- If you have a free early morning or afternoon you should go to Kent, Canterbury it’s less than an hour with the speed train
- Another option is Bath, England it’s so easy to get to and it’s so beautiful
- Another option is Hever Castle & Gardens (where the Boleyn sisters were born) it’s beautiful and easy to get to
Neighborhoods to see in London:
- Chelsea (west London)
- Noting Hill (west London)
- Marylebone and Mayfair (central)
- Covert Gardens! It’s a popular neighborhood for nights out
- Soho (central London)
- Shoreditch (East London)
Restaurants:
- Sky Garden it’s really pretty and open 24/7, tickets to enter are free but you need to book a date and time slot. I went for dinner which wasn’t necessary but you can just go for a drink.
- The Hoxton Holdborn - it’s a hotel but their lobby is a casual lounge area (to the left of it) it’s honestly soooo fun and so many young people/working professionals
- Dishoom- good Indian food and very popular! They have multiple locations but Shoreditch is the best one (it’s like the Williamsburg of London) it’s also closer to you. Make a reservation for this - they’re always booked smh
- Ronnie Scott’s jazz club - casual but fun!
- Bluebird is supposed to be a trendy restaurant and lounge, it’s alright in my opinion. But people love it.
Thank you!
I would also add going to Greenwich, there’s the Royal Navy college, the observatory. Really nice area. There is a boat bus that can take you from different places and it’s really nice to see london from the Thames. There’s the emirates air line cable car that is really nice to do. We took it from royal Victoria docks to the O2 and from there took the boat to Greenwich.
Go inside Liberty by regent street/carnaby street, just because it’s such a beautiful building and the inside is amazing.
Book a brunch at Madeira by Tree House, Mexican and the view is lovely.
Tower of London is a great thing to do, a bit pricey but worth it. I’m pretty sure you can get a ticket that includes going up tower bridge, do book online you usually have tickets slightly cheaper.
Day trip you have Oxford or Cambridge.
More importantly, do get an Oyster card and top it up, the card itself is £5 but it will be much cheaper than getting day tickets everyday. You can then keep the card and if you come back just top it up again.
This is the painted hall if you go to the Royal Navy College in Greenwich
Share some more about who you’re travelling with and what you’re into and I can suggest some options :)
It’s me and my partner, both early 40s. We are pretty much down for anything—but especially like history, eats, drinks. We also are interested in taking in a show in west end while there. Thanks again!
