Planning solo trip. Where would your top picks be for Europe and south east Asia ? Safe (for a women) and not too expensive

Inexpensive is a relative term. I recommend Croatia or Poland (Krakow is a very popular destination). Portugal and Turkey are other options.

For a budget-friendly and adventurous solo trip, consider visiting the charming cities of Prague or Budapest in Europe, followed by exploring the beautiful islands of Indonesia such as Bali or Lombok in Southeast Asia. Both destinations offer a perfect mix of stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and delicious food at a relatively low cost.

For a solo trip that combines culture, relaxation, and adventure, consider visiting the ancient temples of Thailand in Southeast Asia, followed by exploring the rugged landscapes of Scotland in Europe. The countries offer a unique blend of history, spirituality, and friendly locals, all at a budget-friendly cost.

One option that combines city, nature, and luxury, consider visiting the fjords, mountains, and glaciers of Norway in Europe. It is pretty safe and not ridiculously expensive if coming from the US.

By what means of conveyance? Ship? Car? Train?

I was able to travel to Norway and Switzerland in early 2019. Best places I ever visited. If you want to visit South East Asia you can go to the Philippines or Indonesia. Everything is cheap but you get the best of the best beaches in the world. Great and very hospitable people.

My top pick for Asia is Bali, Indonesia! Lots of fun stuff to do and beautiful resorts. Are you gonna travel solo?

like

Yes alone, female. Most recommended does seem Bali.. look more info on it.. thanks a lot

Boracay in the Philippines! Beautiful island and white sand. The nigh life there is also amazing. 10/10!!

like

For women, Bali is entirely safe. Many female tourists can be seen exploring the country's scenic landscapes and revered temples during the day and wandering freely at night.

like

While traveling in Vietnam, I fell head over heels for the country's charm and diverse culture. Vietnam is a ridiculously well-liked tourist destination in Asia, and it's easy for women to travel alone there. My first solo trip was in Hoi An.

like

Spain! I recommend visiting Barcelona and Madrid. Beautiful historical places and amazing food!

South East Asia is very safe and cheap. Even safer than Europe actually especially places like Thailand, Bali, Vietnam.

For Europe, I recommend Spain, Greece, and Turkey. I’ve also heard Portugal is great and very affordable, but I haven’t been personally. For SE Asia, I recommend Vietnam - my top pic of the ones I’ve mentioned, next to Spain.

In the Philippines, Siargao is one of the few tourist destinations that I genuinely adore. As a solo traveler, there is a variety of activities available, including surfing lessons and day trips to beautiful Sugba Lagoon and island hopping. There are two main towns you can pick from, General Luna and Pacifico.

In Como, Italy, I enjoyed both daytime and nighttime strolls, boat rides through breathtaking mountain scenery, mountain hikes to practise my photographic skills, and much more. Additionally, I felt extremely protected the entire time I was there as a female traveling alone.

Lisbon was another of my most treasured solo travel moments. In many ways, I believe your first solo travel to Europe should be to Portugal. Portugal offers some of the best hostels in all of Europe, beautiful weather, and reasonable costs. Actually, I believe it to be difficult to visit Lisbon and not make any friends.

I lived for 4 years in Southeast Asia (just got back last week) - for budget and safety, I cannot recommend Bangkok enough. There are no direct flights there so fly into Singapore for a few days (not that much to see and its BEYOND pricey), then head to Bangkok. Statistically safer than most places in the US, the only real "danger" is paying tourist prices instead of local prices. Clean, safe, lifetimes worth of things to do, and dirt cheap.

What is proper airplane seat reclining etiquette? In my mind, it's made to recline for a reason, but I see a lot of people complain about it online. I'm flying to Europe from NYC in a couple of weeks and I'm nervous about how uncomfortable I'll be if I don't recline.

My best friend took a year off work and just traveled around South America with just a backpack and duffle bag of essentials. He spent about $5 to $10 a night at local hostels and food costs cheaper at local restaurants and shops. He spent roughly $500 a month on room and board. Aside from activities like bungee jumping or live sports events, most of the other activities costs little to nothing. Debating on saving up and just escape for a bit just like that.

Just used a meaningful amount of AMEX points for the first time to buy flights to Greece for my wife and I. Emirates business class both ways for 2 people, 290k pts total or 145k each way for 2 tickets. Plus another 30k to get us round trip domestic connecting flights bringing the total to 320 points. This is on the 777 which isn’t the best business class product out there, but I’ve never flown international outside of coach and think it will still be worthwhile. Think this is an OK redemption?
