Planning to buy Argentine Pesos and Turkish Lira with hope they may come back up at some point. Anyone has insights on upside potential and timeline? Or money better invested elsewhere?

Take a look at history please. I've been traveling to Argentina since the late 80's and I believe the country has defaulted at least 4 times.... including the largest ever. You stand a good chance to lose all of your money. A more conservative bet is a currency that will appreciate due to rising price of oil or better government.

Don’t invest in something you don’t know. If you truly want to do significant investment in Argentina, it’s worth flying down there with a ton of US dollars and exchanging at change houses that will give you a better deal than the official exchange rate. Of course, there’s a reason they do that- Argentines are not supposed to own US dollars but they are willing to pay a premium because many do not trust their currency.

I’m no economics or world history person but Greece currency was the Euro so it had support to build it back up in my mind. For an Argentina comparison, when Ecuador had currency issues they just switched to the US dollar so....

Put somewhere else those economies ain’t coming back

What's your hopeful timeline for a ROI? Look at previous bail outs of countries that had failed economies like Greece and decide if it's a good return over time against alternative investments like emerging market etfs.

Lol wow

Better value elsewhere

Emerging markets has been getting pounded this year, single handedly bringing down portfolios. That doesn’t mean there isn’t high upside, but it’s about as risky a bet as you can make right now and could take a long time to see return. I’d be prepared to settle in for at least a few years

If you are still holding GME what is your gameplan. I am down 50% and still hoping for one dead cat bounce. I was able to sale on this Friday some of my stocks I bought around 80. Now have remaining left at 120 average. Just waiting now for bounce to 100. GME turned out to be vary expensive lesson about why not to chase momentum plays when you don't have time to watch it whole day.

Any one following the narrative or risk story about how the next generation (us) is primarily buying the market through etfs / passive vehicles. Something like the majority of marginal dollars into the market is via passive and the risk it creates as discretionary liquidity disappears? If passive investors sell, or flows stop going into 401ks/TDFs, could trigger massive vol?

Serious advice please! Just turned 29M South Asian living in HCOL. Never moved out of parents home (was supposed to move out few years ago but alas, the pandemic). Economy is worse off now with high rent. I have two options:
1) move out and pay the high rent, not saving much in the end OR
2) stay at home & save money for a down payment (I’ve saved a ton but need a bit more). If I choose this option, I will solo travel every 2-3 months to new countries. All serious advice appreciated!
