At PwC, our high deductible plan is best in generally all scenarios.
If I were you and assuming I had an HSA … and not knowing much about your plan. I’d do high deductible. Max my HSA. Set up a 3 year interest free payment plan with the hospital and initially pay that out of pocket. Then reimburse myself years in the future through my HSA funds that have grown and compounded untouched. That’s the pro move here.
Also, HSA has higher contribution limits when you add a kid.
Instinctively, I’d assume I should steer away from a HDHP next year. But I figure it’s more nuanced than that.
Each plan has a detailed fact sheet on what is and what is not covered, deductibles, etc. there is usually a table of contents so you can easily skip to the part that tells you about pregnancy care.
I have no context on Accenture’s specific plan, but be aware that a C section and associated 4-5 day stay can easily run $100k+, and if you have any complications every day in the NICU is $15-20k. Highly highly recommend eating the higher premium for a year in order to get the downside protection
Thanks for this. This is definitely the kind of surprise I want to avoid
Thanks y’all! I’ll look more into the plans and will probably come back here for more specific advice :)
