I was recruited from US MBA into London office of a "Tier 2" shop. Since arriving here I've had conversations with recruiters from MBB and B4 and other T2. None of them have any concern with visa sponsorship. When talking with boutiques, it's hit and miss. My general impression is that the bigger the firm, the easier / more likely it is for them to sponsor. Granted my experience isn't a perfect comp as I applied through MBA campus recruiting and London was kinda EU-lite.

If you’re in finance or tax, Luxembourg is great, so stick with B4. You should be able to coast by at work in English, but if you want to have an active social life, you should pick up French or German.

like

Perfect, you will have a job there as well!

Your citizenship makes a difference too I think - as you note some countries have preferential visa arrangements. Similar point: if you are getting married soon can you do legal but first? Married to EU citizen should help visa process and make you more attractive to prospective employers.

Yeah that's totally true. Therefore I also share my letter of intent with potential employer to express my situation. I hope it works well !!

Try to get some experience consulting with asset managers and you'll be fine.

London McK here - just applied as a US citizen and did the same interview process as everyone else. No issues getting a visa

Please consider that in certain countries (Germany, France, etc.) language might be a K.O. criteria, especially for junior roles. If you move to Luxemburg, you’ll likely be staffed on projects outside you country (again in GER or F) and the same problem applies...

Following - I would like to move to London for about 2-3 years and I’m curious about the VISA process. I’m a US citizen...

After law school, I worked at a “boutique” law firm (i.e., a small law firm that paid like crap and worked you big law hours) and then moved in-house. I have realized that I now work the same hours as my big law friends, have much less job satisfaction than they do (yes, that is possible), and make less money than they do. Now, I have the opportunity to go big law in an area I currently practice in. I’m considering taking the opportunity. What should I be thinking about?

Fish, I’m still having a really hard time feeling content with my career path. I was raised by a plaintiffs litigator, and I still feel like that’s who I am at heart. But the economics don’t make sense today - very risky and pays a fraction of big law for associates. Also, most plaintiffs firms are not anywhere you’d want to work culturally. Right now I’m corporate. I sort of enjoy it, but it doesn’t seem like people ever stay to make partner bc of the stress, and I can see why. Any thoughts?
