Planning to move to Canada in a year through the Express Entry program. Currently working at Accenture Strategy in India (2 years work experience) with MBA from one of the top universities in the country. Not sure if I'll be able to get an internal transfer. Anyone here who has made a similar move? What worked best for you in terms of job search?

Accenture canada has hired a lot of folks that moved to Canada through PR. Build relationships if possible with directors and senior managers and see what is possible. Also network with other consulting companies.

Be prepared to have financials for 3-4 months. Honestly market is really bad now but even in good times it's not a easy job market. Experience hires are available in abundance due to express entry so hard to get first break. Afterwards it's smooth sailing

like

Referrals are worthless if you don’t have Canadian Experience. Getting the first break is always tough if you don’t have a Canadian network.

Your best bet is internal transfer...even if it takes 2 years extra I would say it will be worth the wait

like

Yeah, try internal transfer. It's brutal market if you don't have Canadian experience.

Lots of people I met in Toronto office were able to get an internal re-hire, although you will loose all vacation and years of service.

Real talk. My employer doesn’t offer 401K or any investment or tax-sheltered vehicles. That said—I have a side company I own but isn’t making income right now. Is it possible to invest in my own company, set up a 401K for myself there and get the 57K/year max contribution? Effectively, if I were to do this, the company would have me on payroll, contribute to 401K and ultimately take a loss.

My husband and I (both 27) max out our Roth IRAs each year, have a complete emergency fund, and I’m able to start maxing my 401K this year (he contributes 10% to his 401K - it isn’t possible for him to max his based on his current pay). We contribute 18% extra towards principal on our mortgage each month. We now have about $20k of additional savings we want to figure out what to do with.
