Uh greys and blues are pretty normal and conservative. Black is for tuxedos.

I agree on grey and blue for work. You might want one black suit for funerals or weddings.

like

Also I’d recommend against wearing tuxedos to work.

Lmao I figured this one, but thanks all the same xD

No black suits at work - you’re not an undertaker. Lighter grays and brighter blues are out too. Navy blue and charcoal gray are your choices.

Navy blue 💯

Do not get a black suit

like

Don't focus on color. There are a lot of ways to expand your suit wardrobe within different shades of navy and grey. You can expand with the fabric -- the type of material, the blend, the weave etc. For example, a wool suit is different from a wool silk linen blend. Even within wool, you could get a fresco wool for summer, and flannel for winter. Whipcord weaves look different from hopsack. You can add subtle patterns as well, like herringbone or birds eye. All will look and feel different, along with different levels of formality associated with it. There are a lot of menswear guides on the topic, and a lot of them will have 'capsule wardrobe' guidelines you can reference.

All true, but don’t wear black to work, bottom line. Black is for clubs and funerals.

The only black suit that belongs in a man’s wardrobe is a tuxedo (or tails, if for some reason you’re going to White Tie events). Get several suits in shades of blue and grey. The first two should be dark grey/charcoal and navy solids. After that, you can expand with different shades and patterns (stripes, windowpane, plaid). For shirts, you should mostly wear light blue as the ground color.

Grays are for the summer. If you wear gray in January you may get some interesting looks. Same applies for nighttime occasions - always wear dark colors to those. Congrats and good luck!
