I wouldn’t want to be an eng at a non-tech company so would throw JP out.

Teladoc has the most upside from an equity perspective but also the most risk. Telehealth market is growing quickly and they’re a leader. Stock has been battered so there could be a lot of immediate and long term upside. Will also have the most opportunity for career growth. Glassdoor reviews are bad for a tech company of its size and age. Rewarding to help people.

Apple would be solid. Less equity upside but safer. Good benefits and good name. Have to be ok with your company making a major portion of their revenue from products built with near-slave labor and child labor.

Hello everyone!

Currently looking to jump from Health Care to Pharma/Biotech. Does anyone work at Gilead and can serve as a reference? The current department I’m in, I do not fit the culture as it is a very archaic way of “managing” people. I have about a decade of a variety of work experience, majority in customer service/coordination/administration.

Would love any assistance if possible!

What are people’s thoughts on CS masters degrees? I’m not talking about the professional ones designed for non-CS undergrads, but a proper masters degree from a good school. I have 3 years work experience as a data engineer, but would love to dive deeper into ML and a degree seems like a good option. Will companies value it? I don’t have a CS background in undergrad, but most prereqs are knocked out.

Please share you valuable suggestions

As someone commonly involved in first round interviews, here's some hopefully helpful advice around the 'Experience' section of your CV:

- Gaps in employment are important and are usually always discussed during interview
- Short spells with a past employer will be followed up on if not discussed during interview
- Soft skills are just as admirable as the usual hard/tech skills listed in your past employment
- A naturally driven and competent candidate could outshine their lack of experience

I’m an SD II and my manager just put in his two weeks notice. My director ( my managers boss ) asked if I was interested in interviewing for the manager position. It would be like skipping a level / double promotion. It seems like a huge opportunity, but it would mean no more coding, and I’m not sure I ever really want to stop coding.

I’m leaning towards declining, but there’s a part of me that feels like I’m making a huge mistake. I’d love any feedback

Why do recruiters waste candidates time by asking them to pursue jobs with a lower title, less compensation and a smaller scope? There is so much information available online today I just simply don’t understand why there is such a disconnect. For context, my current TC is around 325k and I have a Sr. PM title at Amazon. I frequently get recruited for PM roles at small companies offering 80-100k. What is the recruiters thought process?

I need some advise/opinions please guys 😅.
I have two job offers from companies in the teleco industry both are offering the same base.

Company 1 is a recent merger/joint venture of two big household names making them one of the largest in the industry.
They have offered me a Senior Engineer role with the potential of growing into a Principal.

Company 2 is also well known but definitely what you would consider a smaller rival. They have offered me a Lead Engineer

Career advice needed: I'm at $140K per year and have 40% equity in a company. I will only get the remaining 60% equity if our company is bought or goes public. But I can walk away now and keep my 40% equity.
I got approached by a competitor who will pay me $186K per year (so more than a 30% increase) and will also offer me equity that won't fully vest for 4 years (so essentially 25% year 1, 25% year 2, etc.). I won't get any actual money from this equity unless they are bought/go public.

I got an offer for a 3-mo contingent role at Meta as a CSM that pays more than double what I make now.

The pay rate makes it hard (if not impossible) to say no - but I'm apprehensive about accepting a contract offer, especially one that's only 3-months  ending on Jan 2.

Obviously, I'm already thinking about what I'd do next. I'd love to stay in tech. Just curious if anyone has experience with a short-term contract & what the job-search process looks like during/after the contract expires.
