This is called ruminating. Practice stopping it when it starts immediately and redirecting. You can say something like , "hi thought! Bye thought! Now it's time to rest." It's important to use the word rest and not sleep. Rest triggers your body into a restful State. This is also related to mindful or meditation practices like headspace. Best of luck to you!
Smoke weed
Any brand recommendations on the gummies?
Be busy with something else.
Or someone else...
Use a shutdown ritual at the end of your workday. Close all your programs one by one. Take one last look at your to do list and write “not today” next to whatever you didn’t cross off. Then, with everything shut down, do the same thing every day that sends yourself the message that work is over. It can be going to the gym, hitting a gong, playing a game or whatever. For more thoughts on this, I recommend Cal Newport’s book Deep Work.
Write a list of items to tackle the next day - be a bit detailed if that will help get it out of your head for the evening. Good luck OP!
Yes this! Sometimes I’ll have a random thought and then I’ll worry I won’t remember it the next day. I find that if I write it down (or send myself an email), it allows me to relax and let it go because I will get to it tomorrow.
Workout. Watch a movie. Leave the laptop CLOSED and away.
Maybe have kids? I dunno, every job ever I’ve always thought about it at night.
This will not have the desired effect because you will be guilted into being back online after bedtime, thus thinking about work late into the night.
Meditating. Seriously.
Go take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class
In all serious, but a Faraday bag and put your phone in there.
I think there is a psychological component of actively putting the phone away. When it goes in the bag you are done with it for the night. In airplane mode you might look at *just* one more thing.
I read before bed. It channels my energy/nervousness about work in a focused way
Realize that whatever is happening at work will still be there in the morning. Nothing you do at night / before bed is going to change that, so you might as well not lose sleep over it.
Walk up to a doorway - maybe your front door, maybe a bedroom doorway - and tell yourself to leave the day/week’s baggage there, breathe in and out. Then walk through and continue your evening, focusing on yourself. Book, work out, tv, etc. Hope this helps!
Have a glass of wine?
I find I think about work when I feel like I didn’t have a super productive day, or left something incomplete.
