thoughts on this inclusion thing? As a minority it seems to be a publicity stunt... for the pictures and social media posts... Just confused about why we are still talking about what needs to get done


3 kids under 9, we are late 30s. Have lived in Lakeview for 15 years but need to find a bigger place. Always have been “city for life folks” but with Covid and kids getting bigger, we are considering burbs as well. Anyone move to the burbs and completely regret it? We are looking near West burbs with Elmhurst being the only one we have really looked at. Lack of diversity is a serious concern but want my kids to be able to ride their bikes when they are 11-12, but that is tough in the city.


Anyone else ever feel like they were just a “diversity hire”? Is this actually a thing where you have an upper hand in recruiting given you’re a minority and will help make the company look more diverse?

Not sure if other firms are the same, at EY we can add “🏳️‍🌈 I support inclusion” in our email sig. Most people from Unity ERG don’t. If you don’t, why not? Particularly during Pride month.

Thought: When you see diversity of skin color as the most critical factor you miss out of diversity of experience and ideas. Quite often these overlap, but there are a lot of people out there like JD Vance who come from poor white roots, but because of their skin color they’re assumed to have some magical privilege bestowed upon them by society.

Likewise, wealthy people of color are lumped in with their less affluent counterparts. We’re so quick to look at skin color and see the sum (cont’d)


How is 72andSunny for non-white folks? I know they had a client-imposed diversity initiative following the General Mills win. Has it helped?


Quite disappointed that Bain ignored “LGBT” term and instead referred it as “special group” during a Greater China pre-MBA info session, when asked whether Bain has LGBT diversity program. Bain changed its logo into Pride on LinkedIn but can’t recognize LGBT? I know it’s China, but expect Bain to be more supportive across the firm globally.


All this bloviating by liberals every minute of every day won’t change the fact that Trump will be re-elected in a landslide come Nov 3. I’m seriously concerned about the mental health of these people because the constant catastrophism is going to lead to psychotic breaks. You can already see it clearly in this bowl. People that are supposedly all about compassion, kindness, love and inclusion show nothing but a vitriolic hatred toward anyone that disagrees with them.


If you are interested to talk with some opposite gender person outside of your team in ZS, how would you approach them/initiate the conversation? What tricks do you use


Really want to attend a diversity conference on Monday but have a client meeting Tuesday. Think I could do it? Both are super important to me so trying to figure out what I can do


For the ladies specifically- my boss continues to set in person meeting only to cancel the morning of. My issue is that we’re predominantly still remote and this selfishly causes a lot of stress. I have to plan my showers, outfit, lunch, gym logistics etc. only to have him nonchalantly cancel. Really it is the “getting ready” that ticks me off. Here I am in full makeup with dress pants and he cancels. I don’t know how to explain that for women this might be a bigger deal than jumping in the car.


Looking for the best elementary model for special Ed students who are mild/ moderate (ie. Pull out, co-teach, inclusion with para support, etc.) What articles support this model?

Quick poll: List your gender & a quick sentence on whether you like to work for male or female bosses (ok to say no preference). Me personally - Male - I’ve had better experiences working with male managers. I’ve noticed that more female managers feel disadvantaged and try extra hard to prove themselves (incredulous this happens in 2020), but in the process tend to be more demanding and stressful to work with. This is not intended to offend anyone. Just genuinely looking to learn and grow.


Between Chicago and DC, which city would be better for raising kids? For context, I am an Asian man who is married. Here are the simple pros and cons that I thought of:

Pros: lower cost of living; central location makes it convenient to fly out
Cons: not as many East Asians (!?) - perhaps there are other East Asian pockets here that I have not seen, but the suburbs here feel quite White

Pros: more Asian diversity; Nova has great public schools
Cons: higher cost of living



Anyone worked at multiple firms? Which would you say was best in terms of diversity, upward mobility and compensation?
