I think the legal term is pledorian

Pleaded per Bryan Garner

Pleaded is technically correct, but annoying and ugly.

Something my ex wife often said about me.

likefunny

Pleaded sounds awful but that seems to be the more common term. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Pledelorian. This is the way.

Both are correct, so the choice is stylistic. I hate the way “pled” sounds and tend to use “pleaded.”

I had a partner send me a condescending “use pled not pleaded, learn grammar” email once and sent him a reply (with citations!) explaining that both are correct, but pleaded is actually the preferred form.

Hello Fishes,

I need some advice regarding this situation and what to do. So I work for a company that offers outsourcing services to major investment banks around the world. I have been working for a new client for about six months now and they seem to like my work so far. Recently I saw that they're hiring to get people on their team at my level. My question is, should I talk to my client and try to pursue them to consider me for the role they're hiring for?

You ever just sit in a team meeting and realize you don’t relate to anyone in your job anymore. The small talk, the corny jokes all seem uninteresting and you just want to get your money and go home.

And don’t say look for another job because I’ve been actively looking for a year now 🥲

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Is this normal??

Do I raise the concern with OMVIC (vehicle sales regulator) or am I just pissed off and should forget it?

So I have this really strange satiation. I was asked to review a service agreement, and some attachments, governing website design and hosting client is buying. Literally 25 pages of the most ambiguous, inconsistent, supplier friendly thing I have ever read. Supplier insists using its documents (starting from scratch would have been Faster). The total deal is only $5,000 (which is an insanely good deal) but the time to fix these documents is going to exceed that. How would you deal with this?

When your firm requires billable hours, how are they calculated? Actual vs realized (I.e. what you put on your billing sheet vs what is billed to the client). Does your firm differentiate? Which number do they go by? My mind is somehow not comprehending how some big law hours are under my small firm requirement?

The amount of people, even attorneys, who can't separate out the policy merits of abortion from the issue of whether it is a constitutional right is disappointing. I consider myself pro-choice ---I believe states should allow it, that the federal government can pass a statute to guarantee it, and that FDA statutes and regulations will preempt any state trying to ban chemical abortions through FDA approved drugs. Dobbs at its core is a case about the Due Process Clause, not the policy of abortion
