Both are correct, so the choice is stylistic. I hate the way “pled” sounds and tend to use “pleaded.”
I had a partner send me a condescending “use pled not pleaded, learn grammar” email once and sent him a reply (with citations!) explaining that both are correct, but pleaded is actually the preferred form.
