Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.
I can relate.

If the only reason is for optics then I would disagree with this PM.
Being local is all the headache of consulting with none of the benefits. Sucks.
Millennials turning down work.
Man we consultants are privileged brats aren’t we. If they don’t get reimbursed means location is within commuting distance from office. From a firm standpoint - if you’re living an hour away from office then that’s your problem not mine.
But you are a consultant... For a reason. I did this for almost a year and it was frustrating as hell when there were others coming in weekly, racking up points, status, and per diem $ with a 5 minute commute while I had a minimum 45 minute commute each way (Chicago, within the City) that I had to pay for
Lol OP, I had the same issue in Dallas. I bet it was the exact same client. I was the only Analyst on my project and required to sit at the client site for optics. All other team members were offshore/in another state— and NEVER required to travel in. I stopped going…and delivered 🔥 work… FROM HOME.
Honestly though, if someone told me I’d have been be on a local project in the SF Bay Area, I’d jump ship. If I wanted to live the Silicon Valley life and drive, I’d join any of the tech firms here and take their buses. Idk if Dallas has that option though.
It happens. Some clients demand it Why aren’t they at least expensing mileage in excess of normal commute?
Normal commute to office is equal but in opposite direction of ACN office. Can only expense project mileage in excess of normal commute to office
If my client suddenly asks to increase optics I would need to ask why? Are deliverables being missed? Are they seeing a decrease in quality/productivity? Maybe there's another problem, or another solution.
@A1 - Not millennials. Senior consultants and managers. New regional model isn’t going over well
@K1 - New project, not sure if client asked for consultants to be on site Mon. through Friday, but I’d assume it would apply to whole team not just locals. Client did seem thrilled that there were so many local consultants though. Might have been selling point
And when someone demands you fulfill your contractual obligations, you go to work. Not ask “why” and investigate the optics. Unless you’re an MD or partner
Such a douchy complainbox.. if you weren’t a consultant you would be going to office Monday to Friday. Consultants who fly in are exempted because they have to ‘fly in’.
Exhausting. People who are local want to travel, people who travel want to be local, no one is ever satisfied. Aaaarrgggghhhh.
But PM wants there to be ACN presence onsite for optics
@D1 - Don’t the contractual obligations apply to all consultants not just local consultants? There are about 25% local, 55% who come in ever other week. (rest is offshore)
OP what city?
Dallas
Tell program mgr that you moved in with your bf,gf,dog, pastor and live 3 mikes from office now. Collecct the mileage money.
Is the acn person only on site alone 1 day a week or all week
You are better off nefotiating some sort of split where you are on-site 2.5 days a week.
If that were to occur i would do 40 hr weeks and be done
Oh, I’m one of the remote consultants that comes in every other week. Hope to god they don’t make us fly in weekly.
There are about 6 locals onsite from an onshore team of 22. None of the 6 are on same workstream though two are on workstreams that have dependencies.
