You don't have to do a boot camp, I personally don't recommend it bc they're expensive.
Whatever you declare for your 35 hours PeeDuu, it would need to have came from a "proper" institution. So whatever your company has, you need to check if it counts for the 35 hours or not.
So example, if it's just any random course it wouldn't count.
I did the Andrew R. PMP course on Udemy (around 45 hours ish of course work) & passed my PMP, which counted for the 35 hours PeeDuu. (Around $29)
Hope this helped
Edit 1: If your employer says it counts then it prolly does. As long as you finish & get like a certification of completion for the 35 hours you'll be good.
All you "need" is the education hours, experience hours, and to pass the test. However, test prep, boot camps, and practice tests help for most.
I've been managing projects since 1985, and never bothered with the test. To me certification means minimally qualified. And certification on a methodology means you may be myopic in approach.
It's too bad certifications are must haves for many jobs. But that's me.
I learned more from my PgM on the job about how to be a proper Project Manager than anything from PMI so I agree with PC1
Appreciate the insight. The courses I'm doing are offered through Skillsoft, delivered by PMI certified practitioner, state they're PMI credits in course description, and get a digital badge for each module you complete and pass a module test.
And completely agree on the sentiment about certification vs experience. Only reason I'm going for it is it just makes it easier in the job hunt process; especially getting past recruiters who are usually under qualified and under educated gatekeepers
Agreed that it's easier for job hunt at this day & age. I've been reached out by recruiters for higher paid positions as well & tho I'm not considering leaving my role atm, it's nice to gauge your market value.
Lmk if you have any questions for tips & tricks. I very recently passed it so I took the updated version of the test (heavily Agile). Happy to offer advices :)
The guy who wrote the PMP Exam Prep Simplified (Andrew Ramdayal) has a super affordable course on Udemy. $24 today, worth 35 PDUs. He’s the best!

You need to do the 35 hours with an approved PMI provider. It can be online or in-person, but make sure your time invested will count before you sign-up. The approved providers will have an exam at the end of their training that determines if you’re ready to sit for the PMP. They aren’t stringent, but they are designed to give a preview of what the actual PMP cert exam will ask. I chose to do a 5-day in-person boot camp when I took mine, but that was almost 8 years ago. I took the PMP exam 2-3 weeks later. There should be a lookup on the PMI site for approved providers or you can call in.
