I only accept two kinds of invitations.
1. People I actually know
2. Recruiters
Yup, sounds like me.
I do. Because if they aren’t in my field, they may know someone. Doesn’t hurt.
Only exception are the ones that seem like a sales solicitation, outside of my trade and with no credible mutual connections, or look like a bot.
Usually if we have at least one connection I know/know of then I accept. If it’s a completely random old dude, then absolutely not.
I have a bunch of mutual friends with the people inviting me. Sometimes that’s enough to accept, sometimes not, if it feels spammy.
About three years ago I accepted an invitation from a producer I didn’t know. Two years ago he asked me to come into his company for a meeting - became my biggest client and my favorite work I’ve ever done.
Well isn’t that the kind of LinkedIn unsolicited invitation success story that LinkedIn should be talking about!
I accept everybody. But then I pay for it with a load of spam messages. 😖
Yes and then I delete all the irrelevant ones a month later when they’re not expecting it
Haha savage
Yep and I’ve got some pretty random connections like programmers from Bangladesh, real estate agents from LA, and car sales people from Brazil, so my timeline isn’t just advertising stuff
Ooh, timeline variety. I dig, I dig.
I’ve been getting a lot from people in other countries. If they’re on the other side of the world, I pass.
