Firing 10 attorneys means more work to be absorbed by me. No thanks.
Exactly.

Honestly, (ii)...for many reasons but most of all I think what goes around often comes around. Do I want more money? Always, but not at the expense of someone else’s livelihood.

If they're able to give out special bonuses, they're able to keep 10 attorneys who had a rough year during a global pandemic.
I’d leave the firm, tbh. Attorneys earn the firm 3xs what they make in salary (as a general rule) so if you use special bonuses as an excuse to fire attorneys I don’t want any part of that firm. Have the balls to fire underperforming attorneys or don’t. But don’t put it on the associates to feel they can only get a bonus if they hunger games their peers
You're posting this in the biglaw thread. That's bold of you.
It’s just a poll! Looking to see where folks likely to get the bonus stand! That’s all.
If my firm fired 10 attorneys I think it would implode at this point, so (ii).
Lol no but I used to work there.
Fire the 10 attorneys. I can think of 10 associates off the top of my head that are over budget on every deal, need to have everything they produce rewritten, and are entitled a-holes.
This. Agree 100%. So many people at my firm who have been getting bonuses on the 1st and 15th of every month because they definitely aren’t working for those checks
(ii). We are desperately understaffed and that’s making my life more miserable than any money can cure.
