Question for the BCGers (in North America). I understand that the firm is more regional-based as compared to McK (where you get thrown wherever the project is at the time)… But I’m wondering to what degree can someone at the C/PL level get exposure to int’l clients? What % of your clients were in MENA, AP, LATAM, etc.? Boston Consulting Group

If you're a POC Austin's racial diversity is notably horrible.
Austin in the streets, SF in the sheets.
Transplanted Austin guy here: Austin isn't all that affordable anymore. And the salaries aren't all that bloated either. We haven't had the 'big one', but we came close to being underwater this year. And it only takes a relatively 'small one' to have floodwaters 8 feet up the sides of a building on 6th street.
I just moved to SF (after long stints in NYC and LA before that). I’m not in love yet but I’m definitely liking it. Austin has limited career potential. In SF you have countless agencies and tech companies to explore if your first gig doesn’t pan out. I’d vote SF. Or actually screw them both, go to LA.
Creative market in Austin is very very small comparatively.
@72 makes another great point. When people from other parts of TEXAS say, "Austin? It's so racist there." You have a big problem.
Native SF girl here: Austin is affordable. I love my home, but it’s too damn expensive, even with a bloated advertising salary. Also, not to be a Debbie Downer, but we haven’t had the ‘Big One’ yet and given Trump’s horrendous response to the hurricanes, it seems unlikely that Cali’s recovery would be smooth should a major earthquake happen. Just being real.
SF in the summer and Austin in the winter
That's actually the perfect time to move to SF. Enough $ to have funnier the city before needing to settle down, buy a house, and have kids. (Which are nearly impossible to do in the Bay Area.)
Just moved to Austin from SF and Austin is so much better. Greener, cleaner, way more space, easy commute, cool nightlife. People who think Austin is more racist than sf are kidding themselves, sf is just as racist, although neither is too bad. And Austin is so much more affordable than sf, I cried of happiness looking for apartments here.
Thanks, @Google1! I'd actually be leaving LA. Wondering how to make it in SF on $115K.
Lived and worked in Dallas, then SF. Not quite the same, but bet some things still hold true. As a person of color, Texas isn't the place I wanted to raise my kids. Yes, there are racists in every city, but the accepted social norms in Texas are a good 30 years behind SF. For example, when I left Dallas proper, I was instantly a foreigner. Financially, you'll do way better in Austin vs. SF, factoring in state income tax and cost of living in general (not just rent). The weather is way better in SF. If you don't like fog, just live outside the city. There is no place you can hide from the heat in Texas. Finally, the number of agency opportunities is way lower in Austin. Not a big deal if you have a good job, but tough if things go sideways. YMMV.
