Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there. https://www.pnas.org/content/117/15/8398

No Billing but organized flurry of emails from yday and updated my todo list.
Sick life we live
Like 5 hours and counting
Not me. I haven’t even checked my work email. But I did review and make small revisions to a draft application for writ of cert I’m working on. Didn’t break the 0.2 billing barrier.
My firm doesn’t bill for less than 0.2 hours of work. After I hit 0.2 hours, then it goes by 0.1 increments.
I’m at 105% of my daily goal between yesterday and today. Wouldn’t have billed today if I didn’t have a disclosure deadline for tomorrow. Just wrapped it up, and knock on wood, I’ll get 72 hours of what lay people call a weekend. #fingerscrossed
~4 hours, NBD

Disappointed, not surprised.
