Polling question! If you were given the option of conducting a trial late summer/early fall of this year either in person or virtually which would you choose and why? Assume opposing counsel would agree to your choice and there’s at least 10 witnesses scattered across the country.

I’m a data analyst in the data and analytics department at my company but I don’t use SQL/Python nor do I use data visualization tools. I’ve been taking SQL and Tableau courses on DataCamp but I don’t think I’m retaining much.

Tbh I feel very lost. Should I talk to my manager about this or should I just continue learning on the side? Any advice on how to actually retain the info?

I just find it weird how my title is a data analyst yet I don’t code/use data visualization tools. Help :/

I was wondering, how do you communicate this sort of thing with your team? My therapist wants to do a 9am call and i’m worried something may pop up during my session. I also don’t want to work and do personal stuff at the same time. I feel like such a mess rn 😔

I feel bad because I think I left money on the table. I demanded something (as a plantiffs PI) and the OC actually thought it was reasonable. This why we come in so high sometimes. Ugh.

Deadline to Answer was missed, judicial default was entered, then a Default Final Judgment was entered without a hearing. Would this be an additional grounds for a Motion to Set Aside/Vacate? Assistant forgot to the calendar deadline, and when judicial default was issued, assistant was assigned to file the Answer/Counterclaim, but did not. Soon after, she quit. Was first put on notice when DFJ was issued.

I recently started my own firm. We primarily do ID. I want to give our attorneys flexibility and a work life balance so I’m considering giving them a higher % of every hour billed/collected as the basis of their compensation rather than a set salary. This would eliminate any billing pressure and give attorneys the freedom to decide how much they want to work/earn. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this would be fair and/or a good idea?

And can’t impose judgment one way or another either.

I would appreciate any advice on how to stay on top of non urgent tasks. As a 2nd year, I’m often tapped to handle tedious tasks that need to get done quickly. Tbh, I like urgent matters. It motivates me and helps me focus. I admittedly struggle to care about checking in on DWQs, record requests, OC’s discovery, scheduling matters, etc. Especially with so many cases. I definitely rely heavily (maybe over rely?) on the paralegals for these sort of things. Any tips?

I’m a 2nd year associate and I’ve been working at the same firm since I started. In a nutshell, I love the work (the practice area) but not the people very much (it’s just not a fit). I’ve been thinking of leaving for some time. I have an opening at another law firm, but my practice area would be different. Should I just wait for another opening in my area of preference? With Covid, openings are rare for entry level associates ...

I’m a current biglaw associate thinking of lateraling to Quinn Emanuel. Looking for a more dynamic and trial-focused litigation practice, but I’m a little put off by how poorly Quinn seems to invest in support (tech, paralegals, etc) and generally seems to nickel and dime its associates. Curious how these issues feel for Quinn associates on a day to day basis.
