CD here. This is how I have dealt with this: 1. Find a boss to impress and get your validation by over delivering to that person and other coworkers. Once you hear compliments and praise, that usually helps. Why: your boss controls your raise and promotion. Your other coworkers will sing your praises to your boss if you impress them, and that impacts your boss’s perception of you. A raise/promotion/bonus/positive reviews help with imposter syndrome. 2. Work on things that get produced and that you’re proud of. Easier said than done! Esp these days. Maybe the most unrealistic of the 3 points. But seeing your hard work materialized helps with imposter syndrome. 3. Evaluate your skills with your peers at your agency. If you believe you are a 5/10, and your coworker is a 6/10, find out why. What are they doing that is making them this way? Are they spending more time doing daily inspiration? Are they brushing up their mew program skills more often? Do they do 3D and after effects on top of design? Do they have a photography side hustle that makes them sharp at establishing unique photography direction? Do they take writing classes that make them weirdly decent copywriters too? Do they do improv that makes them great presenters? Get inspired and learn from others to better yourself. Good luck!

Solve global warming with your advertising and then you won’t feel this way. Trust me. Well except for the conspiracy theorists. But we don’t like them anyway.

I’m not a creative, but the best advice I got on this recently was that technical skills can always be taught, but soft skills like hunger to be better, awareness, drive, etc. can’t be taught. If you were hired they probably see a desire/fire in you to be at the next level, and just because you’re not there TODAY doesn’t mean that with some direction and experience you couldn’t get there. Sounds like you’re in a humble spot and you’re not cocky at all- channel that into being like a sponge and if it helps- brush up on skills and do some learning outside of work.

Most creatives go through this, some constantly. (Ironically the ones who don't are often the biggest charlatans.) A couple of things to keep in mind: We have an inherently fun job, even when it sucks. So there's always an element of disbelief that you get paid for this. A lot of the people you come into contact with don't understand what you do, and use casually belittling language like "oh can you just make it pretty" and other things that suggest it's easy, when its actually not. The field is too competitive for any true imposters to last long - trust me, the real ones get found out quick. (Sure, there are plenty of hacks, but they're still bringing value somehow. Could be work ethic, client relationship skills, etc). If you want a real sense of how talented you are and how uniquely you think, go spend time in another industry. Yes, the people will be smart. But they won't think like you. Very few people actually do. Working on something creative thats not work related will almost always help. You work at R/GA. I think you're doing alright :)

Working on something that’s not work related, is absolutely the best advice! Also true that the even hacks still bring value to someone. Even if it’s just that kid with the huge social media following, but it’s enough to make management feel relevant. 🙄

I just try to separate my ego from the work, think of my ideas and things that I create not as an extension of myself but as their own thing out in the world, separate from my value or self-worth. That makes it a lot easier to weather the near-constant subjective criticism and the sheer amount of completely normal, built-in “failure” that comes with this work.

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.

What’s a standard Sr Content Producer salary in NYC for someone with 8yrs experience (3yrs as Sr Producer)?

Tonight Meghan said that she was concerned that “the first member of color in this family isn’t being titled in the same way as other grandchildren would be”. This was really disingenuous because none of the other great grand kids except William’s (for good reason) have titles either, so why would Archie be given one? This is why I feel like this interview was somewhat staged and that M&H are not exactly the most trustworthy.
