Anyone hiring Finance roles for 2021?
New to Fishbowl?

A recent conversation a had with a recruiter:
Me: hi! I’m interested in the senior copywriter or ACD CW roles, can we chat some more about those?
Recruiter: Unfortunately, those roles require experience in broadcast, digital, and social.
Me: Um, I have a lot of experience in all three…?
Recruiter: Oh, sorry.
And then she never talked to me again! I have no idea what is so hard about their jobs?
And like the point OP made, I am a WOC, nothing annoys me more than recruiters posting on LinkedIn about how there’s no diverse talent and then turning around and pulling this rude-ass nonsense.
your points are totally valid. but want to chime in here and say - a lot of the time we’re not the ones looking for the perfect candidate. the hiring managers are. in no way is my team perfect, but we’ve tried and have been shot down manyyyy times for not bringing what is the “perfect candidate” in someone else’s eyes. just adding another perspective!
If someone or an agency shot you down for bringing diverse talent and give you a excuse of a need for perfect candidate maybe you need to reevaluate who you are choosing to work with as you become their partner in keeping people of color out. Why do you think recruiters have no part in helping industry be more diverse? As a recruiter you can play a part to make our industry more diverse by working with client who hire diverse talent and refuse those who won’t.
Those struggling recruiters should remind their companies that you don’t have to enter a wholesale exclusion of white males. We’re not all evil and most would be more than willing to teach and raise up young POC talent/interns to create more diversity.
^ truth.
Until you fix recruiting and hold the people in that role accountable, you will never fix the diversity issue in advertising.

I’d love to get into a big agency but recruiters don’t answer me since I don’t have a Cannes or Clio winning campaign for sending food into space. 🥺
If the recruiter judges you on awards they are not doing their jobs.
I can’t get hired with 25 years exp because I’m too old even though I’m willing to take the 10 yrs plus exp pay. So I am going to cut 15 years off my resume and see what happens.
🫂 that sucks sorry your having to do that. Our industry fears death by irrelevance and that's how ageism rears its ugly head.
That’s why we creatives often end up doing their job. Hey CD, please DM me—we have openings. Fulltime and freelance.
Sure thing. Always looking for talent, shoot over your info/book
I would also say that some of the largest employers are sticking with old school mentalities (ahem Disney) and aren’t evolving to meet the new table stakes that candidates require such as flexible or fully remote work. So unfilled roles stay open until a candidate pool of mediocre talent ends up getting the roles out of shear desperation to fill an open head with ANY warm body. And the entire situation is then blamed on the “Great Resignation” accelerating openings/people leaving causing the recruiting issues without acknowledging the rate of turnover at these companies are much higher than the general marketplace - leading to a convenient excuse to avoiding any real analysis that would drive company change to improve things to make the best candidates want to work for those companies.
I’ve found every person my team has hired in the past two years.
Our recruiting department’s only contribution to the process has been intermittent updates complaining they can’t find anyone and/or that their own department is understaffed.
HR = neither Human or Resourceful
I had the worse experience with no result every time I worked with a recruiter. They don’t know anything about creative work. Their ideas of a good creative is only base on a list (awards, big agencies, and few design style) and they can’t see beyond that. Because I don’t fit in that mold they always dismiss me. I learned from experience to contact the hiring manager directly and in several cases after seeing my portfolio they set up a meeting with me after their own recruiter turned me down. In few cases the recruiter who turned me down end up calling me to set up an interview and I got the job every time. I also heard complaints from hiring managers on how clueless recruiters are.
In this industry… why are you using “Karen”?. Shouldn’t we be bringing more to the party instead of repeating a meme started by a 15 year old boy in CA?
No. “Karen” is funny so we’re sticking with it. Also it REALLY pisses off the so-called Karen’s of the world and that makes it even funnier.

HR interviewing a creative recruiter for a role.
HR: So, how good are you at ghosting people?
Recruiter: (Smoke bomb)
HR: Hello! Hello! Helloooooooooooo?
Ok, you’re hired!
Is it really true that it’s harder to get hired as a white male? I’m a white male and I thought that blaming DEI was something white dudes did to rationalize not getting a job/promotion? I’ve been trying to land my first junior job for 2 months and just assumed my struggles stemmed from my lack of industry connections/book and not my gender/race.
It’s true. I was just told I didn’t get a job at an agency in LA after they kept me on hold for a week so they could do another search because “the agency couldn’t justify hiring a white male to replace a female (that turned their offer down).”
All from one of the agencies who is supposedly “doing it right”
And then there are posts like this. So, a future-changing CD for $90-120k??…just come out and say “No old people.” Gawwd.

EU pay is very different than US I've noticed.
