Hi! I have an exploratory interview coming up with a hiring manager at a startup. I reached out to her on LinkedIn, asked if she would be open to connecting and she is. I’m very excited about this opportunity and want to make a good first impression. Meeting is via zoom so I’m treating it like an actual interview. What are some good questions to ask? Appreciate the help :)
Is it okay if I use my work teams app for an interview? I’m running into issues with my personal computer on Microsoft Teams and I don’t have time to fix before my interview.
If you’ve interviewed via Zoom/WebEx/Teams etc. recently, did you use your personal computer or work computer? My personal laptop is old and the camera is nowhere near the quality of my work laptop. Is it crazy to use my work laptop? Side note - the interview is via Microsoft Teams, which we use in my office for internal communications. I’m comfortable with the using the platform, but have no idea how meeting info is stored.
What tools/platforms mare you using for your virtual instructor-led classes? Any dedicated to vILT platforms beyond zoom/teams and the other usual suspects?
Does anyone have any insight as to when things are going to go “back to normal” in California in terms of needing to appear in person for smaller status conferences, hearings, depositions, etc. instead of doing it via zoom? I am permanently remote but a lot of my cases are in courts that are a good 1.5-2 hour drive from me and I’m starting to feel anxious about when I’ll have to start going in person for these types of things because of the distance.
Looking for people who work at Slack who may be able to tell me what the grade level / pay is for “senior value consultant”? Is it equivalent to senior consultant in B4 consulting? Would it be a title demotion for me if I am a manager?
Interested in the idea of unionising UK Adland? Well, I’ve got some good news for you: we’re doing it! We’re doing a zoom event on Creative Communications Workers where we’ll be introducing our group, encouraging people to join and having an open discussion about the key issues facing workers in our sector. 📆: 2nd Feb ⏰: 7-8pm 📍: Zoom (link to be shared on the day) Register here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScHe3NZ5jVa-Cm0nkdIcHcRwLop863578EacQTG2q_pbUN4YA/viewform
PSA: make sure you change your smoke detector batteries at home so that people on zoom don’t have to listen to it for an hour
Hi 🐠! Class of 2017 here and found out yesterday that I’m being held back a year (as a 3rd year instead of 4th). I feel totally blindsided / actually cried on the Zoom. I’ve reached out to partner-mentor in other groups and they explained that this isn’t a demotion but an opportunity to have more time to acquire mid-level skills before being thrust into that role & failing. I GET that but I feel this is something that should have been messaged BEFORE the review. Such an erosion of trust. Advice?
What are your policies on cameras in Zoom calls? My weekly meetings feel like I'm just monologuing in front of my team.
Hi everyone, I thought this might be of interest to some of you in the UK: if you're curious about joining a union for the creative communications sector, the creative comms workers are co-hosting an open event together with design and cultural workers (both organising under the UVW union) https://mailchi.mp/f6f0a89c1151/big-announcement?e=42015b6647 The event is on the 2nd of Feb between 7-8 pm GMT on Zoom. You don't need to be an existing union member to join and freelancers are welcome!
How reasonable is it for a client or direct manager to expect you and your team to be available for unscheduled calls during business hours, and be unhappy if someone doesn't answer the phone (or skype/teams/etc) call?
Anyone at Slack willing to refer?
Do you feel like COVID made your job seem cooler or more important? Thinking of people who work for Zoom, Slack, or just anything that people pay a bit more fing attention to and appreciation for.
Fellas, when you put on a suit or just jacket for certain zoom calls, are you actually wearing dress pants? Or are you wearing athletic shorts or something?
Metaverse: Because what VR really needed is Dropbox, Instagram, and Slack with Mii avatars.
Can you please share any software your firm uses that you find helpful? Including any add-ons to Microsoft office (for example: excel power query for indexing folders). Also, do you use any internal messaging system (maybe something like slack)? Thanks!
Discussion post: I feel almost all consulting firms are the same. Mbb, big 4 etc. if you are paid enough there is probably less wlb. If there is good wlb there is not much money. Can you single out a company that you can confidently say pays very well and also has good wlb and also has good opportunities etc.?
Hi Everyone! I’m an S1 doing business tax. I’m looking to transition into either M/A tax or transaction tax next year. I have about 2.5 years of experience in core tax. Any insight (WLB, salary, general trend) about either of them for someone in NYC? Thank you all! I appreciate it!
Any United Global Services willing to upgrade my K class economy flights in December? I am 1K and have 5 GPUs but can’t use them on K class. Appreciate it!
Has anyone ever had their final round MBB interview suddenly canceled by the firm and if so did they ever tell you why? would a firm ever do this if a candidate got too annoying in between interviews? McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group
Interviewing with Accenture for Senior role in Guidewire Delivery in NE ( NYC, Boston, Hartford or Philly). Any idea on pay ranges and signing bonus?
Long Post : I have a divorced female friend that I have known for over 15 years and consider as a sister. For the past couple weeks because I was on the bench and bored we talked about an hour+ often, especially when I am walking and need company. My wife went through my T mobile call history and mad because I'm talking to her too often and too long. She knows the friend as well and we all hangout on multiple occasions. Am I doing something wrong here? Or my wife is just insecure?
I have just over 2 years experience in consulting, I am focussed on FS clients but still a generalist for the most part and I’m not truly enjoying consulting. I would like to be client facing with a good work/like balance, and so have looked at roles such as customer success or account executive. However, I’m wondering what other types of roles could work for me? (I realise there are so many options but I just have no idea and so don’t know what to look for!) Would appreciate any and all ideas!
Hi, Does anyone have any idea about xoriant? Is it a product or service based? How's the job security, WLB? And do they send employees to work from client locations?
Anyone have a therapist reco in Chicago? Hopefully someone who is cool doing remote sessions for now? I've gone to therapy before, but it's been a few years. On top of everything happening to everyone this garbage year, I've had some upsetting personal stuff happen lately and it's getting to be too much to bear. Know myself enough to know it's time to get back into talking to a professional! Thanks in advance.
Does anyone else feel like they get a runaround response when receiving a rejection notification? I got an answer back after months as to why I wasn’t considered for a position and they state my focus was more on billing operations even though I was able to demonstrate my ability to perform the tasks of the position on a technical interview.
Did you ever have thoughts of divorce within the first year of your child’s life? This has been so difficult (not parenting, but managing our marital issues) and even with therapy it has not gotten any better.
Hi! What are your companies doing regarding sign on bonuses for interns this year? We ended up having our full intern program this summer and plan to extend offers. Are companies getting rid of sign on bonuses for entry level employees this year? Any insight would be appreciated!
Accidentally missed credit card payment of $12 because it auto connects to my uber card I never use and now I’m scared it’s gonna negatively affect me
