Portland is great, but the legal market is super insular and generally unfriendly to those without ties.

Agree with Associate 1. So many people come here and can’t stand the weather. It’s not enough to just have gone to law school here. People want to see real ties (spouse, parents). You’ll be asked which local high school you went to.

Stoel Rives is good. Seattle is bigger and has more exit opps though.

I came to Seattle 6 years ago after finishing law school in the Midwest. I love it! The legal community is active and collegial. In my opinion the boutiques and regional firms have more sway here than the local offices of national amlaw 100 firms. But that's just my observation as a litigator. Might be different for corp or some niche areas. Don't expect huge salaries like LA or NYC. Not many first years making over $200k here. Typical starting range $110-160k (with exceptions)

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

I’ve been through 5+ weeks of interviews with a company that will IPO next year and they did a bait and switch on me with the offer: it was advertised as “Head of” and then during the offer-walk-through-meeting today they said “oh btw we changed the title to ‘Senior Manager’ for this role”. They offered me a salary I made 4 years ago as a manager. They offered stock options with an exercise price TBD 1 year from now…which is when they’re hitting IPO. Is that normal for stock options?
