I did not, wish I had. I was coming from a very non traditional background and could have used input on how I positioned myself and talked about my future - I struggled to put accomplishments and goals into business speak and didn't come across as well as I could have.

I used Aringo and they were very good with resumes, essays, connecting with alum, and interviewing. It is pricey though. I only paid for one application (UCLA Anderson, target) and got in

I did not. I had a short list, didn't feel I'd need it. Spoke to one top one, but he didn't want to take me on due to me only wanting to use him to target Stanford and him feeling I wasn't a good candidate for Stanford. He was right about that, but still went M7

Stacy blackman. Useful if you don’t have any friends in mba and don’t know what to do. If you have friends in the program just ask how to shape your story and look over ur essays. I didn’t know anyone back then so I used the service, and now I basically do the same thing for free for my friends who want to go to my school.

I went 2013-2015 and didn’t know that existed. Is it a new thing? I only applied to two schools- OSU and then Cornell as a long shot (my undergrad GPA sucked, GMAT was good but nothing stunning, I worked in social services). For Cornell I reached out to an admissions officer I thought had similar interests and we clicked well. I went for an interview, and I was initially waitlisted. I just kept bothering him- I’d email him saying I was planning on visiting and did he have 15 mins to chat? Is there anyone else he thinks might be good to talk to? Reminding him of my interest. He ended up going to bat for me and called me himself to let me know when I got in. But that was Cornell, not toward the top of the list at the time and idk if it’s even in the top 20 anymore. All that is to say... I don’t know about a consultant, but my advice is that showing interest and building real connections does go a long way still.

Having some imposter syndrome lately: Previous JMO who left for Management Consulting years ago post-MBA (non top-25), but now a manager in tech. Hey fam. Appreciate your inputs on this: I used to be a software developer and currently work as a tech risk consultant (CISA, CRISC certified). Have completed a couple of cyber courses but do not have prior cyber experience. Most cyber sec job postings require prior experience in cloud, aws, devops etc. Applied to a couple of roles but no avail. A) Can I start a career in cyber security without prior experience? B) Will CISSP or relevant cyber certifications help?

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

I work at a growing consulting firm in the Data Privacy space (but have mainly done IT Audit and Cybersecurity work to date). What does Product Management in the Professional Services practice of a large SaaS company do? Sounded like identifying client professional services needs and developing a service offering for that need; but in my experience most professional service offerings are reactionary, i.e. responding to RFPs. This sounds like creating a service and trying to aggressively sell it to clients that aren’t asking for the service.
