Ask to be made whole. Tell them you’re leaving x on that table so at minimum you’d need to be guaranteed that to make your decision easier.

Definitely more than 50k. I received 50k as a rising 3rd year.

like

If you’re not at a market paying firm, it may be hard to “show” the firm that you are leaving $50k on the table. I know this from experience.

I understand asking to be made whole—that’s certainly reasonable. I want to know if it’s asking too much to ask for more than that. If so, how much should I ask for?

I work at a boutique (currently ~14 bankers and 10 back office roles). Joined in august. Since august, 3 senior bankers (MD / VP) 1 HR director, and now 2 analysts have left for great opportunities. To be honest I’m happy and like my role, plus it’s too early to think about switching firms already. I am now the only analyst left, we have another one joining in January. Any advice on how I can leverage this for comp discussions at the end of the year?

Anybody else over working in the rat race altogether? I’ve jumped around a few times in the last 5 years, improving my comp and aligning more to my strengths and interests, yet I’m still unfulfilled. I’m pretty much doing exactly what the last 20 years of being in consulting has prepared me for: advising clients at the highest levels - and I’m bored. I’d love to leave and take up a more creative job, but of course, that doesn’t pay the bills - anybody think of, or actually made that transition?

Payback Clauses!! I received a sign-on bonus and was informed that if I left the company prior to 18 months I would have to pay back X% of my sign-on bonus. I recently accepted a new job and have flexibility as to when I put in my 2 week notice. If my 18 month anniversary date is on December 8th, can I put in my two week notice before this date with the understanding that my last day would fall after this date, or would it be safest to put in my 2 week notice after my 18 month anniversary date?

Apparently more than a few of my firm's associates moved to other states during COVID and are now quitting because we are coming back to the office. The wierd thing is that my office is quickly replacing those associates with other associates that moved here (a large secondary market) during COVID and refuse to go back to their (mostly NYC-based) firms. Is this churn happening at other firms too?
