Powerful guys in Congress can own whatever stocks they choose, but little guys like us are subject to strict independence rules.
Free-market economy indeed - for the rich and powerful.

Though I tend to agree with the sentiment, you’re comparing apples to oranges. We’re privy to a much greater share of material non-public information. Pending regulation that could shape industry? Sure. But we quite literally have a deep dive of the financials/fundamentals way before the market or any politician does.

Except KPMG1, your referring to insider trading rules not Independence.

At least they are consistent. They seem to thrive on making rules for all us to follow and then add exceptions for themselves. Remember Obamacare to name one example.

Don't forget our employer can sell non-audit services with audit committee approval. But we cannot own 10 shares.

like

That's a very naive and simplistic view. Sad!

Own a stock in a audit client where you barely have enough power to change the coffee the client serves and you can get fired.

These guy can own whatever they want in companies where they have the regulatory powers and any comments can have massive short and long term stock price impact.

At least they have to disclose it, so we can trade off them on those stocks where we can haha...Nancy P. Portfolio Tracker on Twitter before they banned it

Apologies if this is a stupid question but if you go for a haircut and one person washes your hair and the other cuts it, do you tip both 20%
I recently got a deep conditioning treatment and the main stylist just came up to me at the beginning and the end but essentially the lady washing my hair and adding the treatment to it did most of the work and I gave them both 20%.
