It sounds like you’ve already tried the route of informally working something out but it’s not happening in practice. At that point I’d loop HR in and see what your options are, if they’d need something from your dr etc. Frame it as trying to reach the best solution for your teams as well as your health based on your doctors advice but that ultimately your health and the baby’s health comes first so don’t be afraid to stand up for what you need
Is there an option to work a reduced schedule for the next few months, even if that means a pay cut at least that puts clearer lines in the sand for your schedule
I would talk with both your PML and HR. Once you have a plan in place, inform your team.
I'm not sure whether this is an HR discussion just yet, but I had another dr appointment today where my blood pressure was through the roof and I'm only 16 weeks. Dr highly recommended working from home (actually recommended changing jobs, which doesn't sound like a bad idea..). But I don't know how to go about this ask.
Our busy season is starting up again, and from what I've heard it will be a tough one. My MP is verbally in tune with flex/telecommute options, but in practice it becomes "I expect you to be here to train the staff."
I see the point, but I also need to be sure my health and baby's is the priority. At this point, I'm considering a chat with HR to discuss the medical needs I'm facing and arrange some accommodations. But do I need to speak to someone else first? I'm lost on the correct way to proceed. I'd rather not step on toes, but I'll do what is necessary to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
any advice is appreciated!
How high was you blood pressure? Some doctors get upset when it’s only slightly above normal. But if you really do have very high blood pressure then you need to be careful while pregnant. I had it and ended up on hospital bed rest for a month. I was just lucky I didn’t have a stroke my BP numbers were so high. If it’s bad you doctor will order bed rest and you will go out on medical leave which is most likely short term disability. But please don’t let it get to that. If you can go on a reduced schedule and work from home then do what it takes because being stuck in a hospital with the threat of an emergency csection every day is no fun. But you have to do what you have to do. Please keep yourself and your baby safe.
Thankfully it sounds like your doctor is onboard with you and will do what’s best. I was up to four separate BP medications and luckily my doctor never showed that she was stressed. But the nurses all freaked out every time they looked at my chart. But it all worked out well and I have a happy and healthy child. I wish you the best!
