Prior to 1983, social security was not taxable. Joe Biden voted successfully in favor of taxing 50% of social security. In 1993, Joe Biden was the deciding vote in raising taxes on social security from 50% to 85%. Now he wants to tax our 401k's and IRA's (page 78, Dems' platform)

Dems will refuse to acknowledge anything blatantly negative about Biden’s policy and it’s just sad

Another example of Republicans crying for free stuff and getting upset when they have to pay for things.

Whats the problem, if you make a ton of money on the US system and infrastructure its fair you some back to cover the vost that facilitated you making alot of money

Why is it not good? It’s not taxed under certain income brackets for single and joint filers. Also becomes taxed if you’re working while receiving. You against unemployment taxes too or is this because you realistically will use this benefit and not the other?

If the vote was that close then everyone was the deciding vote. If one person changed their mind it wouldn't have happened.

That's strange. Most modern conservatives have aspirations to be part of the SS.

Republican here and I’d love to opt out of social security as long as I don’t have to pay an increased tax in another area (essentially canceling out the whole point of opting out of SS)

Wait. Aren’t 401(k)s and IRAs (non Roth) currently taxed when you withdraw? Unless you mean they are taxed before retirement, in which case they would have almost no utility. And I highly doubt he wants to end retirement accounts.

Biden is recommending a change from a standard deduction to a credit for money put into savings accounts. Because this change means the ultra wealthy will now get the same benefits as the common folk instead of more, they are crying and making up stuff about Biden taxing 401ks

Reaction Icon Like

The taxes make sense. There is a floor below which you aren’t taxed. We need to apply the same standard to millionaires. Dems will do that.

Ethics Q: my client created fruaduant medical documents in order to try to recover extra benefits from her injury. My thought is to settle her case with insurance company for whatever nominal amount is offered ASAP. However, this might be lower than her case is actually worth despite the the fruad. I would rather end representation as soon as possible. Thoughts? California ethics apply.

Global recession can come anytime. Markets are going vertical without a solid base (a sign before a steep fall). On a visa, would you still invest in 401k large caps considering a steep downfall anytime? I understand markets will pick up again in few years, but if you aren’t in the country by that time, it’s gone?
