Prior to COVID I was planning on transferring from LA to NYC this summer. That got put on hold but it looks like NYC is getting better now (especially compared to LA). Do you think it would be worth it to make the move now?

I don’t think NYC is really going to feel ‘normal’ anytime soon, especially as it gets colder and outdoor time and social activities become even more limited. It’s also very hard to get around unless you feel comfortable with the subway and it’s pretty lonely unless you have a lot of friends/ family within walking distance. I don’t mean to be discouraging - I truly love it here. But most of what I love doesn’t really exist right now.

My clients have been split between LA and NYC for a variety of reasons - actually happened randomly at both my last firm and my current. I’m back on an LA client right now though.

Rents are dropping so you’ll likely find a decent deal but the drawback is that lockdown will likely continue for at least another 6+ months, through the terrible NYC winter. Outdoor socializing will not be an option then. Even now, gyms aren’t open and there’s no reopening plan in place for those high contact services. I’m hopeful that New Yorkers know not to tempt fate and that the curve will remain flattened. However, most of the things that make NYC amazing won’t be an option for the foreseeable future. Do not want to discourage you but that’s my two cents.

I just got back last week and have really enjoyed it. It is harder to hang out with people now and certainly more difficult to meet new people, so if you have a solid friend network (doesn’t hurt if friends have private outdoor space) and are comfortable getting around by bike or walking, it’s great. I also signed a new lease and got a great deal by negotiating base rent down plus two months free. Just depends on your situation/preferred lifestyle

Unless you have a built in friend network in NYC already I would not recommend moving. It will be very hard to meet new people and make friends. Offices will stay close so you won’t even get to meet coworkers

Absolutely not true if op is female and pretty she can easily make friends. All others can simply Paypal me $99.95 I will hook you up with friends. Actually quite a deal.

Yes. New Yorker actually mask more. I feel more confident will have some degree of normalcy.

Op I would definitely move out LA. At least for 2 years. My SoCal vaca is total destroyed.

What?

I was planning the exact same thing but from NYC to LA. I’ve postponed my plans by at least 1-2 years because I don’t have a solid network/friend group in LA, and NYC feels safer and easier to get around (walk/bike) so I can still see my friends or go out and people watch at the park but idk how I’ll feel once winter hits. Idk it just didn’t *feel* right to move anymore. If you’re working remote and have the means, you could do a practice move- come to nyc for a few weeks as if you’re moving here and see how you feel!

Good luck! That’d be a lot of fun. I did grad school there and wish I did mba instead because cbs looks like a lot of fun

Tired of being shamed by family for the precautions I’m taking to ensure my family, including 2-month-old, are not putting ourselves in any situation that may cause unnecessary risk of contracting covid. Was called selfish for not attending a bday party (ironic), was made to feel bad when I asked family (who had travelled to Florida for fun, gone out to bars/restaurants, etc.) to get tested before coming to see the newborn. Just be respectful of how others are dealing with the pandemic, please!

Alright moms. 4th kid in daycare and this one just won’t nap. We send a portable white noise machine and she has a lovey. But she apparently has serious FOMO. I’ve asked them to move her to the furthest corner. Then moved her to the younger baby room. But I’m out of ideas. 11 months old (10 mo adjusted). I had chalked it up to just starting at daycare but we are almost 2 months in. She’s a hot mess in the evenings. What magic do you have for me. All of my others fell in a routine by now!
