First of all congrats! This is an exciting spot to be in with two amazing companies.
Personally, I’d take Spotify. There, you’d have higher comp and an opportunity to work with some of the smartest people in that field. You can use the products you’ll be working on to learn then pivot to one you’re more passionate about internally.
Congrats on getting an offer!!!! As someone who’s currently trying to get a PM role at Spotify specifically because of the type of product I could be working with. To my understanding since Spotify has experienced a lot of growth the type of products you could be working with will change drastically. So even if you don’t like them now who’s to say in a couple months that won’t change. I’m currently in a situation where I took the money despite me not liking or caring about the company and I’m miserable. I much rather love the company I work with and believe in the product or service than take a job just for the money. I’m at the point where I’ll take a pay cut at a different company I actually like and believe in. Also, off topic, if you care to can you describe the interview process? Spotify is a dream company of mine.
Congrats on your offer.
Depending on where you live, you have entered the world of “pay isn’t that important”.
You currently make a very good wage, so the questions and concerns now become ‘how does this job effect my quality of life?’ Does the Spotify improve your quality of life? Which job has longer term stability? Which position is with a company that has the most potential? Which market is more vulnerable to economic downturns.
An extra $34k a year is awesome, and can help get you retired sooner, but does it come with an expense of happiness?
If you think Spotify is better, and will give you the better experience then take it. Comp bump is nice too.
Congratulations on your offer. May I ask if you decided to take it and if you did, how has the experience at Spotify been for you?
Where are the two positions located?
Solid offer! I'd say if you think you are maxed out with learning at HBO, then taking a position elsewhere will force you to learn something new. Could be the growth that you're looking for, and the experience couldn't hurt. If you end up not being satisfied, you'll be in a position to move laterally to a diff company
