OP, tell that to your Partner. This is important. Say look, I’ll make it up but I have to be there for him/her.
Go home. Halloween is a big day for many people with young kids. Find a way to make it work and you will never regret it
Fly home, OP. It's important and you won't regret it. It took me too long to learn that family always must come first. It's difficult in this job, but if you set boundaries and make choices, it can be done
Go home. My youngest is now 19. He doesn’t trick or treat anymore. So you get maybe 8 to 10 shots at that experience before they’d rather go with their friends, and then it’s done. There will be hundreds of projects. Hop a flight and go trick or treating with your kid.
My whole team told me that today. Go
Why is this just coming up? My whole team plans around Halloween.
Yes i did!! We were dorothy and tinman :)
I’m surprising my kid by going home tomorrow morning to be there for Halloween
They don’t own you. Tell this to yourself every day.
Thanks everyone, im a first time mom and so emotional reading these posts, there are a lot of good people in consuy
Look - you have about 10 or less Halloweens to go trick or treating with your kid while they’re able-bodied to walk on their own and still young enough to be cool with mom/dad taking them out and around. It’s one of the most fun-spirited days of the year. Make it count before they’re too old to want to go. Those years will fly by before you realize they’ve passed. You WILL regret missing them because you’re in some city in some hotel on some project somewhere grinding it out.
How dare you? Client always comes first! Work is first priority, you are a corporate slave and I am your master. Work your ass off for my year end profit sharing and your peanut bonus you commoner. PS: do not bother me after 4 PM need to take my kids out of trick or treat.
As someone who’s mom died five years ago, I still remember how much effort she made to get home from work and trick or treat with me. My fave day of the year. Go and make memories! ❤️
@M1 - good thing you’re only a manager then. Any Director or Partner worth jack wouldn’t fight you on this
Yeah, I would have addressed this like 2 weeks ago and had gotten approval to WFH this week or fly home. You should be there for your kid, so make it happen, and next year mark your calendar to bring it up earlier
Go home. These moments with family are most important. I've found over the years most of the worry about the implications of these decisions was self imposed and never resulted in any negative professional consequences.
Forgiveness not permission. Go. Next year, give more warning, let your team plan accordingly.
Go home! Family comes first
Tell your manager and go. My team (those with kids and some who want to do the parade) have left - we’ve planned meetings around that. Clients are supportive - many of whom are prioritizing it for their family as well. I’m also planning on it :)
Smile on my kids face when I showed up for trick or treating when she knows I’m normally away for work was PRICELESS 🤗
