Pros and cons of living in downtown Chicago? Other than the obvious, which I have read in dt vs suburbs articles.

10 year ex resident. The city is fun if you’re only into the following:

-Drinking in loud crowded environments
-Eating food in loud crowded environments
-Watching professional sports in loud crowded environments
-Walking in loud crowded environments while breathing in exhaust fumes while also stepping around dog/human poop and urine
-The sounds of fireworks from midnight to 4am every single night from Memorial Day to Labor Day
-The sounds of motorcycles every single day all day from Memorial Day to Labor Day
-Getting red light tickets, speed camera tickets, and parking tickets on the regular
-Commuting on loud, crowded, diabolical trains and buses
-Horns, f’ing horns at every hour of the day. I don’t care if you’re in the loop or west town, horns all day and all night
-Ear piercing sirens all day and all night
-Groups of drunk twenty somethings talk loudly over each other at all hours
-The neighbor upstairs that sounds like a herd of elephants at all hours of the day and night
-The unit downstairs that seems to go through the same set of “just graduated from college sorority boppers” every year that have parties every weekend.

While paying $3k in rent + $260 in parking.

Weird that you hated it so much but you stuck around for 10 years. Sounds like you grew up.

Apples to oranges comparison. Either you love city life or you love the burbs.

With kids, I can’t imagine living downtown.

The one thing I love about the city is the restaurants. The suburban (better KPMG??) restaurants just aren’t the same. They’re okay, but just not on par with the variety and quality downtown

Pro - italian beef sandwiches
Con - Chiraq

funny

i don’t think the two even compare. if you want to live in the city or in the suburbs it’s typically an easy choice.

i live here and love it, couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

I am looking to drop my series 7 and join an RIA. I’ve finally accepted that the BD environment is a terrible fit for me. I would like to join an RIA team because I’m just over 5 years in and I would like to have some mentors to continue learning from, but if I can’t find the right fit then my plan is to launch my own. Where to start looking for an established RIA? I have not completed my CFP yet.

Is this a good investing mindset - been wanting to buy AMZN, MSFT, TSLA, and GOOG, but keep waiting for them to be more affordable(yes I missed the dip), while their price just keeps steadily rising to/past all times highs. But these are companies I believe in long term. And Time in Market vs Timing the Market. So should I just buy them now based on their future potential value as opposed to waiting to try to get a discount that no one know if/when will ever come?

Sooo my nanny fell asleep holding the baby. My husband and I work from home. So, he walked in, saw them and put the baby in the crib.
Ask: Any advice on how to address this with the nanny? Also, it it a fire able offense?

Context: Nanny started full time on 1/24; baby is not quite 5 months old; we are WFH and have cameras installed that are visible (she should know they exist); first time having a nanny
